Jennifer was quiet for the entire drive. She had a flood of emotions she was trying desperately keep in check. She was sitting next to her mate, and every second was a battle trying to keep herself from reaching out to touch him. She was also afraid of William and kept looking over her shoulder, checking to make sure they weren't being following. Then she was also fighting severe anxiety about what she would do when they got to where they were going. She didn't know how she was going to tell her human mate about herself, about werewolves and mates and the mate-bond they shared. When they reached the cabin, she felt no closer to having a plan on what to do than she did when they left her apartment.

Jennifer and Lennox got out of the truck and walked up to the front door, where Lennox unlocked it and they both went inside. Once the door was closed and latched, Jennifer took a sigh of relief. She knew that the door wouldn't hold out much, if any of her kind were intent on coming in, but having the barrier in place, and finally alone with her mate gave her a sense of safety, even though she knew it wasn't genuine safety.

"Ok," Lennox said looking at Jennifer with a fierce intensity that made her skin tingle in the best possible way. "I think I've been more than accommodating. Start talking. What is going on?"

"I think we she sit" Jennifer said, as she tried to decide where to start. They moved to the living space, and Lennox sat stiffly and attentively in a large chair, while Jennifer took a seat at the edge of the couch angled toward him.

"This is going to sound crazy" Jennifer began, struggling to find any words to say. "There are people out there, that aren't just people" she began, and then stopped. "I mean, we're people, but we're more than that" she began again, looking at Lennox to see how crazy he must thing her to be.

Lennox just stared back at her, with a stone-faced expression, giving no indication of what he thought about what she was trying to say, so she continued.

"Ok, I'm just going to say it. I'm a werewolf" she said, and then held her breath to see what Lennox's reaction would be. His expression didn't change, and she wondered if maybe he hadn't heard her.

"I'm a werewolf" she said again, with added emphasis on each word.

"I get that, go on" Lennox said to her with a note of agitation in his voice. "There's obviously much more going on."

"Well, that's king of a big part of it. Aren't you going to argue with me about the existence of werewolves, and tell me I'm crazy and that they don't exist?" She asked, trying to understand what was going on.

"I think we can skip that part, I know about werewolves and it was pretty obvious to me that you are one, from various occurrences since we met, but there's more I need to know."

"Ok" Jennifer said, feeling relieved that he knew about her kind but now also suspicious. But now having no idea where to go next in the conversation because she had spent so much time focusing on the initial revelation about werewolves. "What do you want to know?"

"Who is after you, why are you in my city and where did you come from, for starters" Lennox began. "But more importantly why I am so drawn to you? I feel like I can't catch my breath when I'm not around you, and it's almost worse when we're this close. I feel like I have to reach out and touch you." As he said that, h leaned toward her, breathing in her scent as his face got close to hers.

"But" and he sat back upright, refocused on his line of questioning. "Who are you running from, are you in danger? Are we in some sort of danger? Why are they after you? What else do you know about me? Are you hunting me?" He listed off his questions in rapid-fire, Jennifer barely having a chance to hear each one, and feeling distracted by how close his face had been to hers.
