Loving a Lich

Falling asleep prior to sunrise for the first time in what the Kid Lich thought might've been over a week now, he felt at peace. With that one small sentence, his severely damaged soul could finally begin to heal. But it would take time. Back out on the physical plane, Artemis discreetly texted Iris [when did they exchange phone numbers?] and asked for a blanket and a pillow. Iris, still being someone who loved the Kid Lich, and still being someone who the Kid Lich at least thought he could love, silently blinked into Billy's home, coming from her own, and gave her friend what she asked for.

"Is he...?" "Actually sleeping? Yeah, I know. There's something we only see once in a blue moon, pardon the pun." Artemis whispered to Iris with a grin. "I wonder if he needs one of us there to do it," Iris whispered. The Kid Lich was sound asleep, in a deep, dreamless, restful slumber. With any luck, his spirit would recover after a good night's sleep.

Iris continued: "Like, he always joked with people that we slept together, but we never actually slept together, you know? He just always seemed really adamant about making sure the vacant spot on his bed was filled... so you know... as his girlfriend and all." Iris trailed off, sensing the awkwardness of the situation.

"Right, I get it." Said Artemis. She didn't want to disturb Billy's first good night's sleep in quite some time, so she asked Iris if she could blink back to her apartment, thanked her for the pillow and blanket, and watched the Goddess of Rainbows disappear in a dim flash. Artemis, with the consideration only afforded to the people you loved, didn't move. She just stayed as she was, shifting her body to get as comfortable as she could while being careful not to wake Billy, and laid back on the couch on her back, and got comfortable.

Who woulda thought... two thousand years of abstinence and here come's this guy, who not only told me that even if I offered the big s-word he'd decline, because he saw it as an "irrevocable act" and intuited that eventually I'd come to regret it, would be the human to win my heart. Artemis just smiled. Billy's head was laid across her stomach, and his breaths made his chest rise and fall with a slow rhythm.

Artemis watched the lich sleep. She noticed that a lot of things vacated his facial features, things that were always there when he was awake, things like a constant look of scrutiny always being applied to those around him and his surroundings, things like a silent fury he carried everywhere but hid from everyone, things like the anxiety of knowing his due dates for his college homework were approaching and the stress that came with that, Artemis just laid there, seeing millions of little things in her destined soul mate that no one else could.
