I told my mom everything last night.
She filled up a cart with all of my favorite foods. Sun chips, gummy bears, beef jerky, chocolate ice cream, and so much more. And the second we got home, she offered to put on my favorite movie and that's when I finally broke down.
I told her everything and she cried with me. She told me how much that hurts and that she knows my pain. The last time I'd had a moment like that with her was when she was separated from my dad.
We needed a bonding night.
But the worst part is that my dad caught wind of our conversation too. That's what makes breakfast kind of complicated today. They both took the day off, which makes things even more unbearable. I have thirty minutes before school starts and I know my dad is about to drag everything out of me.
"So, what is it that Sal did?"
Mom and I are silent, wide-eyed, and sinking into our chairs because there's no way Sal Fisher can escape the wrath of an angry, metal-head father.
He's fucked.
My dad glances between me and mom with a raised eyebrow, patiently waiting.
"He, uh..." I mumble shyly, hiding behind my jacket as best as I can. "We kind of... kissed," I wince. "And then he hooked up with other girls. That's the gist."
My dads jaw clenched as he glares at me, already knowing that information based on his question. Hearing that it's true doesn't make him feel any better though.
"And where are you going today?" He asks.
"School."
"After that?" He continues.
"Addison Apartments."
"And where does Sal live?"
"...Addison Apartments," My voice dies out as I sink further into my seat, praying that my jacket turns into a black hole and swallows me up.
I'm just peeking over the neck of my jacket, watching my dads mood darken even further as he watches me.
"What makes you think going to his place is going to help you?" He asks harshly, leaning over the table to get a good look at me. My dad's a very up front person, he likes to be able to look at others when he talks to them. In conclusion, this aspect of him makes him incredibly and terrifyingly intimidating.
"I'm not going there to see him," I groan, yanking my hoodie over my head to avoid his judgmental gaze. This sucks. "Larry, Ash, and Todd wanted to hang out. We haven't done much since Sal left the group."
"Are you lying?" Dad asks, well, states.
"Of course not," I murmur behind the darkness of my veil-impersonating jacket.
"Look at me so I know you're telling the truth."
I roll my eyes, mumbling profanities as I throw my hoodie back and glare at my dad, "I'm not going to the apartments to see Sal Fisher," I say before throwing my hoodie back on. "There."
