No one's pov:

"What is up with you, kid?" It was their inside joke. (Y/N) was 6 months older than him, but you would've thought it was 60 years by how often she was shoving it in his face. He could dish it out right back with the old jokes, and only the two of them found it funny.

Vinnie and (Y/N) had been friends since middle school, bonding over their mutual love for anime, and it was like nothing had changed since then. Yeah, they looked a lot different now, but they were just as close. "Nothing really. Are you sure about this Jacob guy?"

(Y/N) raised her brows, "What do you mean am I sure about him?"

"Like, are you sure you like him?"

(Y/N) shook her head, "I don't like him in that way if that's what you're asking. I just think he's a lot of fun. You don't?"

No, of course not. For the past two weeks, it was like he couldn't escape the kid. Everywhere he looked, there he was, hanging around (Y/N) like a lost puppy. Jacob had a hard time making friends, and he was cool with her mom's friend, so she'd invited him out once, and now it was like they were inseparable.

It didn't help that he couldn't keep his flirty little comments to himself. (Y/N) wrote it off as Jacob trying to be nice, but Vinnie knew better, and each time he heard him hit on her, it kind of made Vinnie want to punch him in the face.

"He's alright, I guess. You know how I am. I like to keep things low key, and he seems to want to be the center of attention all of the time. I don't fuck with that." He divulged as they stood by her car. Their group of friends had made plans to go to the carnival, and Jacob had tagged along, not shutting up the entire car ride there.

She nodded, "Yeah, that's how I am too. I just feel bad. He's new to L.A., and he's not the most personable...I get it. I promise he's a lot more chill one on one; he's actually really sweet. I think he's just nervous around a lot of people, especially you."

Vinnie scoffed, crossing his arms in front of his chest. "Why me?"

"Well, for one, you can be very intimidating at first, and you always look like you wanna murder him." She placed her hands on his arms, slowly pulling them down to rest at his sides. "You know, a smile wouldn't hurt."

"Mhm."

He furrowed his eyebrows, and she laughed at his unwavering expression, raising her hand to squish his face. "What was I thinking? You look so approachable and cute."

Vinnie decided he would try to play nice today, letting (Y/N) drag him to catch up with their friends. He knew, and he was sure she knew as well, that he would do anything to keep her happy. The reason why? He was falling in love with her and had been for some time now. No one knew, except Vinnie's mom and Vinnie himself. Falling in love with your best friend always sounded so great in love songs but, no one talked about how fucking hard it was to tell them. No one talked about how hard it was to see someone constantly making eyes at the girl you had feelings for. No one talked about how fucking scary it was to imagine being rejected.

Playing nice didn't last long. 2 hours with Jacob was more than enough time for Vinnie, and he was happy when they all eventually split up. (Y/N) was standing between Vinnie and her best friend Aurora, chirping away about how badly she wanted to go on the Ferris wheel. He liked the way her eyes were lighting up and wanted to see how excited she got once the three of them reached the top.

"(Y/N), you gotta sit with me on the Ferris wheel!" Jacob beamed once they got into line, easily throwing her over his shoulder.

She squealed in surprise, hitting him on the back. "Fine, you win, put me down! Put me down!" She said, and Jacob didn't listen, spinning her around.

"Bro put her down," Vinnie said sternly, halting Jacob's movements. The air was tense as (Y/N) was set back down on her feet.

Jacob let out an awkward laugh, clapping an annoyed Vinnie on the shoulder. "Relax. I was just joking around, kid."

"Number one, don't call me kid...and number two, you've been doing too much all day. I think you need to relax." Vinnie snapped, making Jacob visibly flinch. Aurora shared a look of concern with (Y/N), unsure if the two boys would start fighting.

"(Y/N), what's good with your friend?"

Vinnie threw his head back, laughing in amusement. "I'm going to walk away before I really smack this kid in the mouth."

With that, Vinnie left, taking a few deep breaths as he made his way to the parking lot. Maybe he'd been a little too mean, but it was irking him. Jacob had been friends with (Y/N) for two weeks. Why was he picking her up and spinning her around or holding her hand? Why was she letting it happen? Vinnie couldn't stand watching Jacob or anyone else touch her, letting his anger get the best of him.

"Vinnie!" He didn't stop walking when he heard (Y/N) calling his name. She eventually caught up with him, the boy standing by her car. "I appreciate you telling him to put me down, but he wasn't hurting me or anything. I'm sorry he's been so annoying all day and the whole calling you 'kid' thing. I told him to tone it down, but clearly, he's not capable of that."

"It's not just about this, (Y/N)."

She frowned, "What else is there? Did I do something wrong?" He averted his gaze.

(Y/N) watched him with cautious eyes, silently begging him to explain what was going on. "I don't want Jacob touching you. I don't want anyone but me touching you because I want you...really badly."

"Oh. Oh." He tried to gauge her reaction. "Well, why didn't you just tell me that, dummy? You say the word, and it's hands off to everyone but you."

He couldn't contain his smile, "Are you sure?"

"Yes. I want you just as bad." Her back hit the car as he connected their lips in a much-needed kiss, hands sliding around her waist as she wrapped her own around his neck. He didn't pull away until they were both breathless, her eyes lighting up like they were both at the top of the Ferris wheel.
