New opportunities.

I believe we have new opportunities every day. Whether it be marrying a man for money or traveling to an asylum to gain experience.

We all have options.

I'm Hazel Rose Monte. I've always hated my name. My mother nicknamed me as "her little peanut", a pun on my name and height. I'm only 5 ft. but I can take care of myself just fine. I have porcelain white skin, green eyes, and long brown hair.

I grew up in a rich family, which made it all the more disappointing for my parents when they found out I was going for nursing. Ever since I was a child, I felt a strong desire to help out the less fortunate. My father just wanted to marry me off like a business trade. Well I proved him wrong in doing this.

------------

I rolled out of bed in my nightgown as my servants came in.

"My lady, it is time to prepare for your journey today." My close servant Molly said.

"Yes I know, I'm quite excited." I said with a sleepy smile.

I went behind a curtain and changed out of my nightgown into my white undergarments.

Molly slipped the corset around my waist and pulled at the strings.

I felt like I was suffocating. I never understood the purpose of these torture devices.

After that she put on my travel gown. A simple blue dress with lace trimming.

I added some pearl earrings and a brooch. Molly put my hair up and pinned it in a fancy bun.

I put my boots on and buttoned them up. Finally I added some rouge and walked downstairs.

Breakfast was on the table and both my parents were seated.

"Good morning my little peanut!" my mother said brightly.

I held the urge to roll my eyes and politely greeted her back.

I sat down and ate eggs and some toast.

"Are you sure you want to go to that crazy house today?" My father asked sadly.

"Father, it is an asylum, and I want to help other people. Please drop this." I begged for the umpteenth time this month.

He nodded slowly and continued eating.

I was on my way to the asylum with my bags in the carriage along with Molly.

We bumped along the road for about 7 hours, until the iron gates came into view.

The whole place looked dark and old. The iron gates looked rusted as they opened with a creak. Fog slowly settled around giving it an eerie feel. It was beautiful though and spooky at the same time. The asylum was giant.

I felt a bad feeling about this place.
