A Match into Water (You Can Never Put Out My Flame)

***SIX WEEKS LATER***

I walked into Frank's hospital room as soon as I got out of school. The first week Frank was in here I skipped school and stayed here all the time, but my mom forced me to go to school. Now I come as soon as schools over and stay here on weekends.

Frank was staring at the ceiling once again and sighed.

"What's up, Five Foot Frank?"

Frank giggled at the nickname before responding. "The stab wound. It's healing and I can tell it'll scar."

I kissed where the scar is on his stomach. "I still think you're beautiful. I'm glad I didn't lose my best friend and my boyfriend." I leaned over and gave him a loving kiss. He smiled and we kissed for a few minutes before his nurse brought in some food.

He drank some of whatever drink they gave him and made a face.

"What?" I questioned.

"I hate this flavor with a passion and I f*cking hate the after taste." I laughed.

"Sowwy Fwankie!"

When he was done eating we sat there in silence. I had a question, but I'm sure he wouldn't want to answer.

"What do you have to say, Gee?"

I looked up from the ground to look at him. "How did you. . .?"

"I know you, Gee. Just ask."

"Well. . . I don't think you'd want to answer."

"If I don't want to answer, I'll tell you."

I nodded and tought about how to ask before I finally decided to just spit it out. "How did it feel?"

"How did it feel?"

"The stabbing."

"Well, at first it felt like a really sharp pain, like a leg cramp in your stomach, then it felt like I was on fire. And by the time I had fallen it hurt, but there was so much adrenaline and so much going on I could barley feel it." He smiled at me. "Why wouldn't I want to answer that?"

I shrugged. "Because it was a painful memory."

"The memory is fine now. What's painful is staying here for six weeks straight."

"Then let's leave," I smilled evily.

"You can't just walk out, Gee. It doesn't work like that."

"Who said we'd walk? You're on the first floor? It's not like we've never opened a window before."

Frank considered this for a minute before grinning wildly. "Alright. Let's go."
