That night, Chris and I laid on my floor and listened to almost all of my CDs, and he told me stories about his family. His parents seemed to be pretty good to him, which made me wonder what happened with them today.
I wasn't going to pry, though.
I ended up putting in one of my Green Day CDs, turning it down a little as I shifted to look at Chris.
To my surprise, he was fast asleep, snoring quietly with his mouth open the slightest bit.
I smiled to myself. His personality and all were so cute. Not to mention he was very handsome.
The best part of him, though, was that he was so kind to me.
As I gazed at Chris, I was suddenly broken out of my thoughts when I heard a sound out in the other room.
I gasped, looking up at the clock.
10pm. It was Joseph.
My eyes widened as I reached over, beginning to shake Chris. I heard footsteps come down the hallway, and I patted Chris on the cheek rather roughly.
"Just a few more minutes.." he mumbled drowsily.
I bit my lip as the footsteps began to get closer. What would I do? I couldn't hide him.
Or could I?
I quickly stood, taking all of the blankets off of my bed and tossing them on top of Chris.
Just as the door began to open, I threw myself on my empty bed, taking a deep breath.
"Hey, Ella." Joseph Said, peeking in. "Oh...what happened to your bed?"
I shrugged.
"Do you want me to help you make it?" He asked, beginning to step inside.
I shook my head vigorously.
"Oh.." he mumbled. "Well, did you have a good day?"
I nodded a little.
"That's good." He said. "Did you meet any new friends?"
I shook my head.
If he didn't hurry up, Chris would make a noise and my cover would be blown.
"Did you see Chris again?" He Asked.
I faked my best yawn, hoping that it would tell him that I was tired and maybe he'd leave.
"Oh.." he mumbled. "Are you tired?"
I nodded.
He nodded as well, looking down at my mess of blankets. "Are you sure you don't need help with that?"
I nodded again.
"Okay...Goodnight." He mumbled.
I waved, and he shut off the light, leaving the room.
As soon as I was sure the coast was clear, I got out of bed, walking over and uncovering Chris, putting my blankets back on the bed.
I knelt next to him, shaking him a little.
I sighed a bit as he stirred a little, but went right back to sleep.
Man, this guy is a hard sleeper.
I stood, grabbing one of my blankets from my bed, covering him up with it.
Joseph probably wouldn't come into my room again, so Chris could stay the night if he wanted to.
I laid in my bed, looking down at him.
Goodnight, Chris, I thought to myself.
Friday, September 14th, 1994
When I woke up, it took me a minute to remember last night. When I remembered that Chris fell asleep on my floor, I sat up, looking around.
The blanket that I had covered Chris with was now wrapped around me, and he appeared to be gone. He must've left this morning before Joseph woke up.
I got out of bed, stretching a little as I made my way over to my vanity to brush my hair. As I reached for my hairbrush, I noticed a piece of paper sitting beside it.
I picked it up, unfolding and reading it.
Sorry I fell asleep...see you at school! -Chris
I smiled a little, setting it back down where he had left it.
I brushed my hair quickly before changing into a pair of jeans and a plain black T-shirt. I threw on a hoodie, then went out the kitchen, where Joseph was sipping on a cup of coffee.
I was almost worried that he had noticed Chris in my room, but judging by how calm he was, I think Chris thankfully sneaked out before Joseph could find him.
Joseph looked up as I walked over to the counter, smiling at me.
"Good morning, Ella."
I nodded at him, going over and pouring myself a cup of coffee.
"Did you sleep well?" He asked.
I shrugged, and he looked up at the clock.
"Do you want me to drive you to school on my way to work?" He asked.
I looked up at the clock, gasping a little. This was typically the time I would be walking to school, trying to find Chris.
I took a long swig of my coffee, before running over to the door and putting on my shoes. I grabbed my backpack as Joseph looked at me Questioningly.
"Is that a yes?"
I shook my head, pointing out the door.
"You want to walk?" He asked.
I nodded.
"Okay...you sure?"
I nodded again, opening the door.
"Well, Bye. Have a good day."
I waved, before running out of the house and out to the sidewalk.
