As I fell, I sensed a shadow that seemed to expand around me. I could hear faint whispers and laughs from inside the darkness. I felt a sharp pain in my right thigh as something retracted from deep within my skin, then another across my face. I had to shut my eyes against the sharp cold object as it sliced its way across my eyelids in a quick slash. When i opened my eyes they stung as if a swarm of bees had attacked them and I'd only gotten 2 hours of sleep for 3 days. They burned, the pain was too much. I wiped at them, not sure if the wet sticky trails going down my cheeks were from tears or the blood. "RUN!" I heard from the distance all around me. "Run where?" I sobbed, feeling utterly confused. The sound of footsteps emerged, the echoes amplifying them so greatly the intensity pained my ears. They shuffled and I searched around me as I kept falling. Laughter came next. Some one grabbed my wrist with cold lifeless fingers and fell with me. I screamed over and over again not sure what else to do. My tears welled up and spilled out down my face. The hand left and was replaced by long piercing nails that cut the thin layer of skin behind my ear. Through all the blood I heard thrumming just outside my ear, I could hear someone mumble indecipherable words. Warm breathe that smelled of spearmint was exhaled scarily close to my ear, and I trembled. I knew I wasn't alone here in the place I had awoken in and feared I may never leave. Just before I could try screaming for help again the chillingly familiar fingers swept across my lips, muting me, and they whispered into my ear "shhh," and I was alone again. If there were more than me and this other thing, whom I did not wish to encounter again, was here, that thing didn't want anything else to hear it. Then as if it had been on pause, the pain came rushing back all at once, and as my body fell, I fell out of consciousness.
