The office kind of feels..empty without Alex. But I guess I only feel that way because he was such a big part of my day.
But now Mr. Liam is a big part of my day. Or, Liam. He doesn't like formalities.
It's something to get used to.
I have a lot of things to get used to though. Some things I don't really want to get used to.
They gave me Alex's office.
Why? Absolutely no idea. I'm just an assistant, I don't really need an office, but I guess it's nice to have one. Alex left his mini fridge in here so I've taken that over. I'm sure he wouldn't mind, right?
I wouldn't know, I have yet to call him. Not even once. He told me I could call him at any time, any time I needed him. I've needed him a few times this week, but I can't bring myself to call him.
What if he's busy? What if he's working? What if he doesn't actually want me to call him? What if he changed his number and this isn't even the right way to contact anymore?
That last one isn't realistic and not likely, but my brain refuses to believe otherwise.
What if he's mad at me for that..?
"Aaliyah," I quickly look over at the door when it opens. Liam smiles at me. "Lunch?" He offers.
"Uhm..sure." I mumble as I push away from my desk. Liam smiles at me and waits for me. I grab my things and follow him out into the hall.
That's another thing. Liam takes me out to lunch like he used to do with Maya. I thought I'd like that. I mean, I wanted a boss that would take me out to lunch, but I can't seem to get used to this. I'm not entirely sure why, it just feels weird to sit across Liam and eat.
"So, how you adjusting to that new office?" Liam smiles at me as we walk out of the elevator.
I frown a little. "Um..well, it's fine, I guess."
"You guess?"
"I feel a little bad." I tell him honestly. We make it to his car and I climb in the passenger seat.
"How so?"
"Well...I liked Mr. Reyes. He was a little mean, but he was my friend." I explain. I've got to stop using past tense. He's not dead.
"Really?" Liam laughs, glancing over at me. "So, those rumors were true?" He quietly asks.
I'm quick to shake my head. "No, no, we were friends. We weren't.." I trial off.
Liam chuckles. "Okay, okay," He murmurs. "Friends."
"Yeah.." I mumble. "It just feels a little...wrong that I just took his office like that." I explain.
Liam shakes his head. "He's not here anymore though. He's in Philly in his new office." He chuckles.
And his new assistant. His new mini fridge.
Well, jokes on him because I have his old mini fridge!
Ha.
"So, you're still friends with him?" Liam asks.
I sigh. "I'd like to think I am." I mumble. "But I haven't called him or texted him.."
Liam lifts a shoulder, looking at the road. "Maybe you were work friends. The friendship might not work out since you guys don't work together anymore." He explains. I frown at the thought.
