Chapter 119 – Giving Birth
As Ye Huaiyang's delivery date was drawing near, Chu Jinglan ran back and forth more diligently every day. The few days nearing the delivery date, he even put aside all the government affairs on hand and devoted wholly to accompany her.
This afternoon, when he returned after merely going out to receive an urgent report, Ye Huaiyang had fallen asleep. He gently placed a blanket on her then sat by the side to watch her. He already felt content just listening to her subtle snoring even without doing anything else.
She has been lying in bed recuperating this whole time yet her waist injury did not get much better even after applying the medication. She would repeatedly wake up in pain at night and her vitality was failing even more while her whole person appeared thinner and the figure only left with a rather disproportionate belly. Chu Jinglan often feels that she is using her own life to keep the child whenever he sees her and the little joy of being a father has long worn off completely, leaving only endless worries.
It was usually difficult for her to fall asleep during the day, but she actually slept so soundly today, hence he felt even more satisfied.
Two hours then passed fleetingly. When Ye Huaiyang opened her eyes, Chu Jinglan was still sitting beside her. Seeing that she was awake, he lowered his head to kiss her small rosy cheek and spoke softly, "Sleep well?"
Hooking his neck, Ye Huaiyang smiled softly, "How could it be bad with you keeping watch by my side?"
The corners of Chu Jinglan's lips curled up hearing those words and asked, "Hungry?"
Shaking her head, Ye Huaiyang shot a glance at the large spot of sunlight coming in through the window panes and said, "Today's weather is really nice. I am thinking of going out to sit."
She basically spent more than a month in the room and had been bored listless. Since it is early spring now, mother-earth is warming up again with vast clear skies, so it is not impermissible to go around the courtyard. Unable to withstand her eyes that were full of expectation but worried about her waist, he could only make a few simple rules in advance.
"Spring is chilling and you can't stay out for too long, hence you have to come back when I say so, understand?"
Ye Huaiyang nodded obediently.
Then Yue'ya and the others moved the recliner to the pavilion before spreading a thick layer of fox fur blanket and placed a few charcoal braziers by the side, before finally putting up a wide embroidered screen around the pavilion to shield the wind while not blocking the sunlight, which was extremely thoughtful. Chu Jinglan inevitably praised when he entered with Ye Huaiyang in his arms.
The greenish spring grass was like carpet and the flying birds had returned to the old woods. Appearing before the eyes was a view full of vitality which was truly delightful.
Basking in the sun, Ye Huaiyang nestled in the recliner with a cup of warm fruit tea in which she sipped from time to time. The sweet and sour taste was very appetizing. Chu Jinglan sat beside her with a volume of unknown books as he read every word and phrase very seriously.
" .... That scholar handed over an exquisite piece of paper with a flushed face. The words written in the book were obscene that muddled the mandarin ducks. Seeing it, the maidservant was angry and rebuked him for offending their family's proper and refined young miss yet in the end, she didn't tear that searing thing but pinched it home in a huff before throwing it on the side of the dressing table. Unexpectedly, the evening wind rushed in and the rain pelted on the window-leaf. When the young miss woke up in the morning and saw it, it had turned into an undistinguishable pulp. So she didn't show up for the scholar's appointment, thus they parted ways in this world."
