Chapter 128 – Extra 1 (Lu/Xie)

During the second year of Chenguang's reign, snowstorm struck Wangdu and the affected populace were innumerable, yet the capital's main roads were blocked. Chu Jinglan could only mobilize limited supplies from the surrounding sixteen cities and coordinate with the imperial hospital and the medical officials to provide disaster relief to remote villages.

Led by the Ye family, many prominent families actively contributed food, medicine, cotton-padded clothes and other necessities. Xie Yun even personally went to an affected village at the foot of Lushan Mountain bringing along her servants to give out porridge and clothes. Knowing this, Lu Heng changed his shifts with the imperial hospital's colleague and rushed over there too.

It was difficult to navigate with heavy supplies in the raging snowstorm before they finally found the entrance of the village in the midst of a vast sea of snow. Thinking of such, Lu Heng sped up with the group when not long after a fenced area where a simple house of bamboo rafts and haystacks were constructed in the middle was indeed seen. There were hundreds of villagers crammed underneath. Some leaned in the corners to rest while some queued up to get food and at the end of the queue was where the smell of fragrant vegetable porridge filled the air. Trace of a beautiful plain shadow which was particularly eye-catching was amongst the tattered clothes, who was busy shuttling back and forth in front of the house with agility and moving like a butterfly.

Standing dazed in place, that was the Xie Yun whom Lu Heng had never seen before.

In his impression, Xie Yun has always been that elegant and quiet young miss of a prominent family, who rarely steps out of the boudoir and treats others courteously without a wee bit of fault to be picked. But now that she is in charge of the clan's affairs, she begins to come into contact with people from all walks of life. She actually was not afraid to face those haggardly emaciated or the somewhat boorish villagers, as well as not mind the strange odor on them. She even personally delivered food and cotton-padded clothes to them. Her every frown and smile was like the warm spring breeze that could melt this cold winter.

She has really changed.

She is already able to stand alone and is no longer that little girl who relied on him back then.

Lu Heng felt somewhat sad, but on second thought, it was good to be able to see her in this world of icy snow. At least, he could be sure that she was safe and sound, and felt very satisfied to use this aiding opportunity to speak a few more words rather than the usual situation in Wangdu which was like separated worlds apart.

The Xie family's steward is a smart man. He greeted Lu Heng with a smile and told him about the situation here. He then assisted the imperial army to resettle the victims and the order in the bamboo house was soon restored.

Lu Heng expressed his gratitude to him before asking people to set up two simple platforms in front of the hall, where pots were arranged to decoct medicinal herbs while he treated the victims. He and Xie Yun were separated on both sides and unable to talk for the time being.
