Nita finally began her training to become a hunter when she was nine season cycles old.

She grabbed the spear out of the ground as she dashed by it and tucked it into the strap across her back as she ran. Hurtling over a log, she locked eyes on her target once more. The animal stopped for a split second, which turned out to be just enough time for Nita to throw another spear. This one hit it's mark, and the rabbit's ears disappeared in a flurry of wood. Nita slowed down and grabbed her kill.

"Good job Nita! You are progressing very quickly." Bo called, stepping around a tree.

"Can I go after the bear soon?" She chirped.

"Soon, Nita. Very soon."

"Bo, I want to do it now!" Nita cried.

"Do not rush, child. When you are ready, you will be strong enough in time."

"But-"

"Nita." Bo scolded, leveling a glare at the girl. She shrank in on herself, timidly handing the rabbit to bo as he walked by. The man took the rabbit from her hand, then crouched down so he was almost eye-to-eye with her.

"Nita, if you are rushing to defeat this bear, you are doing it for the wrong reason, and the bear will die for the sake of senseless violence."

"Bo, it killed my parents!"

Bo's face molded back into a glare. "Revenge is not a good motive." With that, he stood up and began stalking back towards the village.

Nita stormed after him.

"Nita, look!"

Nita turned on her seat to see what Leon was doing. Or, rather, not see.

"That's impressive, Leon." Her brother appeared just inside her field of vision, grinning like a maniac. His smile faded when he noticed Nita's sour expression.

"What's wrong?"

Nita sighed. "Can I ask you a question?" Leon nodded and squished himself onto the log next to her.
"If someone hurt a person you love, would you try and hurt it back?"

Leon leaned back, deep in thought. "Well, why did the person hurt someone you love? Were they trying to protect themself?"

"Why would the biggest bear anyone's ever seen be worried about our parents?" Nita growled. Leon made a small "oh" noise as he realized the conversation he had just gotten himself into.

"Bo says I'm not supposed to talk to you about the bear."

Nita huffed out another sigh and hunched over.

"But grandmother said I should send you to her. So, uh, you should go talk to grandmother."

Nita glanced over at her brother, who was looking anywhere but at her. His eyes slid over to her, and he grinned shyly.

She shoved him off the stump.

"That's rude!"

"You're rude!"

Nita snickered as she walked off to see her grandmother.

"Hello, dear," Her grandmother called when Nita walked in. "Did your brother send you?"

"Yes. He said you wanted to see me?" The elder hummed thoughtfully and gestured for Nita to sit down.

"Would you like something to eat?" She asked.

"I'm not hungry."

Grandmother sighed and sat down next to Nita. She was silent for a moment, then: "Did you know that your mother had siblings?"
