Chapter 5: paralyzed
Present
Three months since the incident at the school...
"He's back?"
Jimin heard Jungkook gasp, he couldn't see Jungkook's expression, but he could tell he was surprised at something. Hoseok hadn't noticed him until Jimin walked up from behind Jungkook, who abruptly turned when he saw him. "Who's back?" Jimin asked as Jungkook and Hoseok tried to look normal.
"Jimin," Jungkook raised his arms in the air and hugged his friend. "I thought you weren't coming to school,"
"Well, since we had our talk, I know I've been acting shitty, so I'm trying to get back into a routine," Jimin shrugged and stuffed his hands in his uniform pants pocket. Jungkook felt his heart clenched tightly in his chest, a painful ache for his tired friend. Jimin had purplish-blue dark circles under his eyes, and he was smaller in his waist. The maroon colour of their uniform made his under eyes stand out more.
Jimin sighed and leaned into his friend for support or comfort - or even just a spot to rest his tired body. "I need to sit down. Let's go to class,"
Jungkook nodded and wrapped his arm around his shorter friend's shoulders. Hoseok bumped his fist against Jimin's fist, and they headed to class. The boys forgot Jungkook's conversation with Hoseok.
Soon enough, it was lunchtime, and Jimin wanted to go home. He looked sick, which made Jungkook worry about him more. It's been three days since Jimin has been sober, and he still looked like he was battling the worst hangover known in existence. Jimin hugged himself inside his hoodie he had grabbed from his locker. He buried his face into Jungkook's shoulder as everyone ate except for the sleeping boy.
"Is he okay?" Namjoon asked quietly next to Jungkook. "He slept all through class too,"
"I was surprised our professor said nothing," Hoseok added.
"Maybe he should go home," Namjoon suggested.
Jungkook sighed and looked down at the sleeping boy once more before gently shaking his hand that rested on his lap. Jimin groaned softly and raised his head, blinking slowly. "I'm sorry, kook," he yawned.
"Let's go home," Jungkook nodded.
"I don't know, you're going to get in trouble," Jimin whispered, rubbing his palm across his face. "I'm okay, just need an energy drink or something,"
"You're shaking," Jungkook took the boy's hand.
Jimin shivered and grimaced. "I'm going to throw up," he raised his finger in warning at Jungkook. "Don't follow me, I'll be okay,"
-
Jimin dragged his feet to the hallway that led to the closest washrooms. His body felt heavy and cold. It was almost summer, but it was hot and humid, but Jimin was freezing. His binge over the weekend was still in effect, and his body felt weak and cold from the withdrawals.
He missed Hana, and he wished she hadn't moved away. It had been a shock for all of them, and her parents had planned an entire move without her knowing until a week before. It literally broke Jungkook's heart and his, but they still kept in contact. He just wished she was there to comfort him.
Jungkook's separation from Hana did not affect their friendship, making them closer. Jungkook had tried to get back together with Hana, but she was too hurt, too angry even to try to be friends with him, and they stopped interacting at all. She didn't say goodbye when she and her family moved away.
