After an accidental mess on the couch, Sapnap saves the day by building Dream a pillow fort for him to cozy up in instead:)
—
Turns out Sapnap is quite the master pillow fort builder.
As soon as Dream pointed out where he wanted it to be built, over by the windows looking out into their yard, the brunet wastes no time getting started. He sets out chairs for the sides and places blankets and sofa pillows (the clean ones) on the floor between them.
Dream is a little too young to help, but he's completely happy to sit and watch as Sapnap works his magic. When the other leaves the room to get something, Dream instantly heads over to the construction, eyes sparkling with excitement. It looks so good already!
He lets himself fall backward into the bundle of cushions and blankets, sighing with contentment as his body sinks into the softness. Moments later, Sapnap comes back in with a white bedsheet which he drapes over the chairs, and right over the nose of a giggly Dream, creating a cozy tent.
The blond pokes his head out of the side opening, watching Sapnap adjust and secure his noble fort, even adding a string of fairy lights as a finishing touch.
"Is done?" Dream asks from the tent, looking up at Sapnap with his head tilted to the side like an eager puppy.
Sapnap beams back at him, "All done! Will you be okay in here while I finish my work upstairs?"
Dream nods happily before waving goodbye and retreating back into the softness. He settles on his back with his head by the floor-to-ceiling window on the other side, breathing out a long sigh.
Sunlight peeks in through the little openings in his blanket roof in soft streaks. Dream makes his fingers dance in it, humming to himself as he watches the shifting shadows and swirling dust in the air. It's so pretty in here, and honestly he never ever wants to leave.
He rolls around so he's on his tummy, with his feet in the air so they don't poke out of the carefully constructed walls. Don't get him wrong, the fort is spacious for sure, but it's not quite long enough to accommodate his full height. Dream shakes his head, he doesn't want to think about being tall right now.
Laying like this, he has a perfect view of everything going on outside the window. Which isn't much, but the pretty sky is more than enough to keep him entertained. Dream admires the gliding clouds with big eyes, leaning his chin in his hands and bumping his feet together behind himself.
The cloud he's been watching passes the edge of his peripheral, so he picks out another one to follow before that one disappears, too. Just then, a voice appears outside his fort.
"Knock, knock."
Dream shoots up. It's George!
"George!" He hurries to the opening, nearly bringing the walls and floor down with him. The brunet is crouching right outside, greeting Dream with a big smile once he peeks his head out.
"George, do you like my pillow for'? Napnap made it for me 'cause I made a mess..." He trails off, suddenly reminded of how he got here. But George is quick to bring his smile right back, placing a gentle hand on his cheek and tilting his face upward.
"Your pillow fort looks so cool, Dream. I mean, I'm a little jealous, honestly." He sounds very convincing, and in his little mind, Dream takes him 100% seriously. Poor George, he doesn't have a pillow fort like his
Dream bounces on his knees with pride, grabbing George's hand in two of his own. "We cans share, Georgie. I t'ink dere's space, but I dunno–" He turns his head to gauge the area inside his blanket home. He nods, mostly to himself, before turning back to a smiling George. "I t'ink we cans both fit," he decides softly, head tilted in question.
And that's how George ends up being pulled by the hand past draped sheets into Dream's heap of fluffy cushions and comforters, giggles passing between them like clouds. By habit, or maybe nature, they end up cuddling together as close as humanly possible.
Dream rubs his face into the cotton covering George's chest before settling down with his eyes closed. "I feel so safe in here," he mumbles.
He can feel the other's chest buzz when he replies with a hum. "I can see why, darling. It's so nice and soft, right?"
"Mh, an' I can see de sky movin' ou'side an' light on my fingers," Dream rambles on sleepily. George has no idea what he's talking about– light on his fingers? But that doesn't stop him from agreeing wholeheartedly and squeezing the boy even tighter.
"You're so right, Dreamie."
When Sapnap checks on them later, after his meetings ran a little later than planned, the sky is pitch black and no more clouds are sliding by on it. The boys are still piled on top of each other much closer than necessary even in the small space they're in together, fast asleep.
Oh, and the couch cushions are all clean and dry by now, free from any trace of tears and orange juice. But Dream can hear about that tomorrow, after a good night's rest in his beloved (and immaculately constructed, if Sapnap does say so himself) pillow fort.
