~Diagon Alley: 1989
Katie POV
I stare at my vault, the goblin grins at me, "This is all yours, Miss Katie." They say. I stare at it in wonder, and then look back at my adoptive dad, "Is this yours?" I ask. He shakes his head, "This vault is yours. It was set aside by your birth parents." He says.
-Time Skip-
I walk into the wand shop, a head of grey hair with grey eyes pops up from behind a shelf, "Ah, Miss Katie, yes, yes. I thought I'd be seeing you soon, Miss Katie." The man says. "Um, are you Mr. Ollivander?" I ask.
He gives a curt bow to me, "That I am. You have your mother's eyes. It seems only yesterday she was in here herself, buying her first wand. Fourteen inches long, swishy, made of willow with a female unicorn hair." He says
I look at Mr. Ollivander, I don't really remember my birth parents, I only know that they left me with the Fudges to protect me. "Your father, on the other hand, favored a yew wand with a dragon heartstring core. Eleven inches. Pliable." Mr. Ollivander says.
"Well, I say your father favored it—it's really the wand that chooses the wizard, of course." Mr. Ollivander says, I smile at hearing about my family, "Which is your wand arm?" He asks. "Um, I'm right-handed." I say.
Mr. Ollivander started measuring me from shoulder to finger, then wrist to elbow, shoulder to floor, knee to armpit and round my head. I look at him weirdly, while he measuring, he started to talk. "Every Ollivander wand has a core of a powerful magical substance, Ms. Fudge. We use unicorn hairs, phoenix tail feathers, and the heartstrings of dragons. No two Ollivander wands are the same, just as no two unicorns, dragons, or phoenixes are quite the same. And of course, you will never get such good results with another wizard's wand." He explains.
I look cross eyed at the tape measure measuring between my nostrils, I then notice Mr. Ollivander was moving around his shop, and taking down boxes. I think those held the wands, "That will do." He says, and the tape measure crumpled into a heap on the floor.
"Right then, Miss Katie. Try this one. Alder and unicorn hair. 10 3/4 inches. Springy. Just take it and give it a wave." He says while handing me a wand, I took the wand, and feeling a bit foolish, I waved it around a bit.
Mr. Ollivander snatched it out of my hand almost at once, "Ceder and dragon heartstring. 11 inches. Quite whippy. Try it." He says, I tried, but I had hardly raised the wand when it, too, was snatched back by Mr. Ollivander.
"No, no—here, ebony and phoenix feather, eleven inches, rather flowy. Go on, go on, try it out." He says, and I did, he took it back almost instantly. Mr. Ollivander seems to think for a second, before going to grab a wand.
"A rather unusual combination, cherry and phoenix feather, thirteen inches, rather spirity." He says, and hands me the wand, and I take it. I felt a sudden warmth in my fingers, and feel a slight hum.
