When Thor set off to protect Midgard alongside the Avengers, Asgard found itself facing a critical moment in its history. With the God of Thunder temporarily absent, there was only one person who could step up to potentially take his place as the future ruler of the realm—Loki, the trickster god and Thor’s sibling. But there was more to this than just a matter of succession.

As tradition in Asgard demands, the throne cannot be held by a single ruler. A second person is always necessary to help share the burden of leadership, someone who can offer strength, wisdom, and support. Recognizing this, Odin, ever the strategist, made a decision that would shake things up. In his wisdom, he arranged a grand contest to find a suitable companion for Loki, someone worthy of standing by them as co-ruler.

To ensure fairness and offer Loki a chance to find the best possible match, Odin invited suitors from all nine realms of the cosmos, each representing their respective territories. Nine candidates, each with unique qualities, would compete for Loki’s favor. These suitors were as diverse as the realms themselves, with each one bringing their own set of strengths and attributes.

The contest would not be easy. Three trials would take place, each designed to test the candidates in different aspects of character, skill, and intelligence. In each trial, Loki would have the difficult task of deciding who would continue and who would fail. Each trial would be an opportunity for Loki to learn more about the suitors and their worthiness to stand by their side.

As the contest progressed, Loki’s decisions would grow more intense and significant, as the suitors were whittled down one by one. In the end, only one person would remain standing—Loki’s chosen partner, the one they would marry and rule alongside. The future of Asgard, and perhaps all the realms, would depend on the outcome of this grand contest.
