Mariana gazed at the girl in front of her, shock written all over her features. Rebexa, her first and only friend, was now her rival. Did it have to come to this? No. If only she had put her pride behind her. No. If only they both had put their pride behind them.

They used to be inseparable. Best friends forever, if you will. Sleepovers every night, always having each other's back, no matter the situation. But, now, they couldn't stand each other, at least, that's what Mariana thought.

"Rebexa, please," Mariana spoke, her voice wavering as she held back tears. Rebexa pushed the blade a bit more into Mariana's chest, not enough the penetrate skin, but enough to shoot fear throughout the black-haired girl. "Don't do this. We have to stop the fighting."

"Why?" Rebexa snapped. "Because you'll die? You never wanted to end it when you weren't the one getting hurt."

"That's not-"

"It's true! And you know it," Rebexa spat.

It was true, partly true. Mariana was usually the one starting the fights. But, Mariana would never go this far. She would never try to kill Rebexa. Why would she try to kill the only woman she'd ever loved? Mariana thought Rebexa had loved her too. But, she must've been wrong. I mean, who would ever kill someone they loved?

"You're right," Mariana honestly stated. Rebexa's harsh expression stuttered, slightly, not expecting her, to tell the truth. To admit to her wrongdoings. "And, Rebexa, I'm so sorry. You don't have to forgive me, but you have to know that I never wanted our friendship to take a turn like this. A turn for the worst."

Rebexa's lip quivered and she shook her head. "Shut up," she mumbled. "Just shut up! You don't understand!" Rebexa's arm shook and Mariana could feel the knife drag along her chest.

She did the first thing she could think of. Mariana sat up. The knife plunged right into her chest. Rebexa's eyes went wide and she was sent into a panic, as Mariana collapsed to the ground, barely alive.

"NO!" Rebexa cried. "No, no, no! You idiot, what have you done?" Rebexa pulled Mariana closer to her and caressed her hair. "It wasn't supposed to end like this!"

"Exa..." Mariana whispered, moving her weak arms, to hold Rebexa's face. "I'm fine."

"No, you're not! You're going to die!" Rebexa sobbed. "I love you, you fool! You've ruined everything!"

"You never were great at comforting," Mariana commented, trying to lift both of their spirits. "I suppose...this is where my story comes to an end, huh?"

"Don't say things like that," Rebexa tightened her embrace. "Please, don't say things like that."

"But, it's the truth," Mariana sighed. Rebexa lifted Mariana's chin and placed a soft kiss on her lips. "What was that for?" Mariana's cheeks turned a light shade of pink.

"I had to do it before you were gone forever," Rebexa whispered. Mariana pulled her closer, this kiss being longer than the first.

And when Mariana fell away from the kiss, Rebexa knew she had passed on.

Friends to Enemies to Lovers...

(Wow, that's the first short story I actually finished. It's not that good. I'm just a gay teen who loves angst, so yeah)
