The rest of the team settled into bed rather awkwardly. Pidge tried to disguise their sniffling as ruffling their hair, Hunk had taken to ringing his hands in a nervous habit, and Keith's eyes hadn't strayed from Shiro's cot. Shiro's chest rose calmly. Adam curled next to him to sooth him every time he moved or whimpered in his sleep. He was half asleep though, moaning out some sort of comfort every time something bumped him.

Pidge fought the urge to cry every time Shiro had stirred. He groaned out phrases like "m' arm" and "s' sca'd."

"Pidge," Hunk whispered from his bed. Pidge shivered and fought the urge to let out a sob. Instead, a choked sound came from them.

Lance sat up and looked around in the dark. Hunk whispered Pidge's name again. This got Keith up from his zoned-out state. His mind was filled with worries over Shiro, but he had guiltily remembered that by worrying about Shiro he had left the rest of his team out of mind.

Pidge felt tears escape their eyes.

"Sorry," they managed to get out.

"You don't need to apologize, what's- what's going on?" Lance asked. His voice was soft with concern etched in.

Hunk got out of bed. He stubbed his toe and inhaled sharply to keep from saying a series of profanity.

"Clear a side, I'm coming in." Hunk whispered. He was careful to make his voice as quiet as he could. Shiro was sleeping, who knew how long it had been since he had a truly restful sleep.

Hunk lifted his hands in front of his chest. He took a slow step and tried to remember which bed Pidge was in. Pidge made a strangled cough sound. Keith couldn't help but get out of bed himself. The blankets surrounding him fell to his feet. Cold air hit his skin but he ignored it as he met Lance.

The three made their ways to Pidge.

"I touched him," Pidge whimpered. "I made it worse. I didn't– fuck I didn't mean to! B-but he jerked away and I touched him." Pidge had given up trying to choke down the sobs of guilt that ran through their body.

"Pidge– hey, hey, none of that now! You didn't mean to." Lance said. Hunk recognized it as the tone he'd use when his nieces of nephews were crying.

"No one is blaming you," Lance sat on Pidge's bed. Their back was turned to Lance and they were curled up in themselves. Hunk had found his way to the bed and knelt down. On his knees he clumsily held one of Pidge's hands. He ran his thumb over the top of Pidge's knuckles. Pidge let themselves openly cry now. Snot ran down their face and tears blurred their vision. Keith went to the top of the cot, situating himself in almost a cat-like way. He had managed to curve himself around Pidge's pillow, his lips kissing the top of their head before stroking their hair.

"It's okay, it was an accident. It could have happened to any of us." He told them. Pidge's grip on Hunk's hand tightened as they let out a shuttered breath.

"You're okay, duendecillo. It's alright." Lance spoke. Hunk rubbed the top of their hand in smooth circles with his thumb. Pidge felt their body melt and their tears start to stop.

"I didn't mean to–" they cried.

"We know. Everything's okay. Shiro's okay, you're okay." Keith cooed from his spot. He let his fingers tangle with Pidge's short hair. A few small braids were appearing as Pidge worked on controlling their breathing.

Eventually, Pidge stopped crying. Their breaths were no longer hitched and their shoulders began to relax. Their eyes burned and their head throbbed with the after effects of tears and they snuggled into the blanket Hunk made sure wrapped around them just right.

"I'm scared." They admitted in a small voice. Their chest ached and their hands felt numb. Lance placed a hand on their back.

"Of what?" He asked.

"I'm scared that when the Galra get here.. I'm so scared that I'm gonna die." Keith felt his breath catch in his throat at Pidge's words. Hunk bit the inside of his cheek as Lance began to run his hand up and down Pidge's back.

"I have my dad and brother back. My family is back together, but I'm scared I'll die before we can get back home." They admitted.

"I won't let that happen," Keith promised. "No one is dying. Not you, not Lance, not Shiro, not Hunk, not anyone."

"Thank you."

The four stayed like that until morning. They were all on the single cot, which was way too small for everyone but they didn't care.

Pidge was surrounded by them at all sides. Lance had fallen asleep first, spooning them and snoring softly. Pidge had wrapped themselves around Hunk's side as he made sure to situate everyone on the cot before falling asleep. Keith had remained curled up at the head of the cot, playing with Pidge's hair until they had fallen sleep.

Keith sighed to himself as everyone was asleep around him.

"I won't let anything bad happen to y'all, I'll trade my life for yours if I have to." He said to himself before closing his eyes. As sleep overtook him he thought of everyone.

He lost his parents, momentarily lost Shiro, and encountered more loss than most would deem as fair at his age. One things was for sure. Keith was sure as hell that he wasn't going to loose the rest of his family too.
