"Hey, Shiro! Can we talk for a quick sec?" Matt hollered as the meeting ended. Shiro bit his lip and let go of Adam's hand. The man nodded and Matt led him to another meeting room. The room was empty, save a small table and two chairs. Matt plopped himself in one and looked at Shiro expectantly.
Shiro, much more poised than Matt, sat down. Matt gave a dramatic sigh.
"I bet your wondering what you're doing here." He said. He folded his hands and hunched his back. It was an attempt to look professional, Shiro thought.
"Anyway you look like literal death." Matt finished. Shiro's eyes went wide and he felt himself get embarrassed.
"Umm, I'm sorry?" Shiro wasn't sure why he was apologizing, but it seemed like the right thing to do. He felt sick, something was off again. Not panic attack off, but more of an uneasy feeling in the back of his brain.
If I was in a fantasy novel this would be the part where my math teacher because a dragon-lady and tried to kill me, Shiro laughed softly to himself. Matt took a minute to process what Shiro had just said.
Did he.. did he just apologize to himself?
"Shiro what the— why're you apologizing you dumbass?!" Matt knew that his word choice was not the right thing to say but he was over this.
"Sorry, Matt I had a rough—"
"Apologize to me one more time and I will shove my foot up you ass,"
Shiro swallowed and avoided Matt's eyes. He found a... convenient interest in how many cracks were in the table.
"That came out wrong," Matt sighed.
"Restart the conversation!" Matt perked up. He hit his hand to the table with a loud smack. The chair beneath him was pushed back as he sprang up. "You look like shit and I want to help you out, there! That's what I mean."
"Matt—"
"We went to space together, we were captured together, if anyone is going to understand what you're going through it'll be me."
"Yeah.. you're right. Ha, where do I even start?"
"The beginning?"
