It drizzled lightly as I stepped out of my workplace. Standing across the silent street, I stopped by a taxi and jumped in. A heavy sigh escaped my lips as I felt my head ache. If I'm to rate today according to someone's name, I'd rate it as devil. Today is a two-horned devil, growling at me every single day. It gets difficult.

'Life sometimes could scale with time. And if you don't use it, you lose it. If you don't use it, it uses you.'

These words played on my mind as I laid my back on the back seat of the yellow taxi. I'm one of those girls who gets whatever I want, but things just get worse when I realize my life is almost perfect. It's been two years now since I left my parents. They are the best, ever! Not until the eve of my 18th birthday. Mum and dad sat by my bed and told me it was time I knew the truth.

“What truth?” Confusion plastered my face.

Studying the clouds of emotion in their eyes, I knew it was no joke.

Mum held my hand and answered calmly.

“Seventeen years ago. David and I visited Saint Louis orphanage to donate money for charity, as we usually do. It was tradition, since we were childless. We hoped that act of faith would bring us God's blessings too, but… One-day, we concluded that we'd have to adopt a child. So, we took you.”

“W… what? Who got adopted? Me?!” I questioned blankly at their serious faces. “This is another birthday prank, right? Dad, tell me the truth.”

A jittery laugh exploded from my lips.

“It's true, my dear. We just wanted you to know. Maybe you'd be able to control your powers when you know who you truly are.”

“What? This must be a joke, right? I don't understand, Mum! Say something!” I asked menacingly. “But when I asked you, you told me you're my actual parents? Didn't you?!” I could feel the tears forming in my eyes, but I didn't care. I couldn't hold back.

Mum sniffled silently and raised her gaze at me. “We know you're a wolf-shifter. Perhaps, secret should not be hidden by families. We hold a greater bond this wa-” I jerked her stiff hand off me, and a single tear rolled down my eyes.

“It's over! If, by God's grace, this is true, I'd never be part of this family! You can't expect to build on a home that started with lies! Both of you are lairs! Why didn't you tell me earlier? Why?!” Gut-wrenching sobs escaped my lips and I stopped in between. An abrasion erupted from my fingertips and I held it up, into my fist. Trying not to hurt them like I've done in the past. At least, not today.

“I'm s… orry, Goldie. Perhaps it isn't too late.” Mother's quivering lips muttered the words as she stood up. Unable to hold the sad feeling, that took over. She stepped out of my room, leaving me with dad.

“Is there something else you'd like to say?” My bloodshot eyes gave him a stern look.

“I love you, daughter. Good night.”

After they left, I couldn't fathom anything and anyone around me. Mum and dad had always protected me, but maybe I've had enough!

“I hate my life!” A loud roared tore through my lungs, and I involuntarily kicked the marble table against the wall.  I divided it into two.

As tears streamed from the corners of my sparkling bronze eyes, I opened my bloody palms and looked at them. The deep cut of my claws was like red crescent moons carved with knives into my hands. The wound wasn't deep enough to leave a scar but; I tried hard to calm my boiling nerves. Then it healed. I looked at my pink room and picked anything I laid my hand on. Clothes, books, and most of all, my Visa card. I'd already planned to visit Antoine Gabriel, my online boyfriend, and this was the best time. That night, it was raining cats and dogs, but I left Atlanta for Paris without saying goodbye.
