Soul hunters are creatures that look for recently deceased intelligent creatures to assist them in moving their being/soul/mind to a higher or lower level of existence depends on how they lead their lives.
These hunters have mistaken throughout time as gods/goddess/anfels/demons however they are just workers whose job is it shuttle creatures to these different existences. This doesn't mean that they don't screw up though, when they do screw up that is when you can get what we call ghosts or worse if the hunter is banished to earth it will become something negative and try to hurt people because they force it to stay here. These banished creatures can cause insanity, genetically modify diseases, influence weather, and influence societies to go to war. A series of hunters getting cast out and forced to live on earth was the cause all of the "holy" crusades.
A typical hunter is 5 to 6 feet tall with a humanish build and sometimes with wings, I suspect this is just a disguise to not scare humans when they pass away. When in public they will traditionally be wearing a baggy shirt and blue jeans so they blend in. They have recent adopted either wear a batman, superman/girl, or Ironman shirt; I'm guessing to better hide among people.
I am not sure who employees them or where they are actually from however when confronted they say they are accountants.... Weird
