On my first day for working for the organization, I was assigned to investigate the butterflies of Central Park and the hundreds of disappearances. After my initial training of interdimensional creatures and told to always be prepared for the worse possible situation, they proved me 2 small knives, a clear solid cage, and a bottle of pepper spray. I left that afternoon and arrived at a hotel near Central Park the next day and read through the paperwork trying to understand if I could see any associations between the disappearances and reports of abnormal butterflies. The butterflies are described as small rainbow colored creatures with 4 unique wings each with different designs and colors. They would start out as a single butterfly on a popular part of the trail system but would slowly grow in population the further off the trails you got as well as only appearing at night.
I waited until that evening and decided to go for a walk around the park however I needed to be careful because regretfully being a smaller girl I was use to bad/ignorant people trying to take advantage of me and worse because of this I decided I'd put both knives on me in hidden places and put a little gun in my purse/side bag. After spending a couple hours walking around the park I finally found one of these butterfly creatures. I kept my distance and watch them fly around a person in front of me and lead them off the main trail and into a more secluded area of the park. This person fit the standard missing person rumors single, no one around, and looks possibly homeless. Suddenly out of what seemed like no where thousands of these butterflies swarmed the person out a black cloud of smoke that just appeared. I jumped out from behind a tree to try and save the person and capture a butterfly however the butterflies disappeared in a split second but it was to late for the person all that was left was a bloody pool and a few bones where the poor individual once stood. I tried to capture one of the butterflies remaining drinking the blood but it looked at me and disappeared in a black puff when I got near it. After that incident no butterflies appeared the rest of the night soI decided to go back to my hotel room and get some rest but calling in a cleanup crew to remove the remains of that person.
The next day I decided I try a different approach and went to a nearby store and a bottle of wasp spray, a generic insects spray, and a bug catching net. I put all of these into my purse and started out on my adventure to find these butterflies once again. This time I located one of these butterflies right away, it came right to me almost like they were waiting on me or hunting me. It made me question if these creatures have an intelligence or hive mind about them.
I started following this single butterfly, but quietly and slowly grabbing wasp and other bug spray bottles putting one in each hand as we walked off the trail. Then just like yesterday suddenly the air exploded in black smoke and thousands of butterflies and the started swarming you spinning around me starting to open their mouths. I quickly start spraying the bug killers around me before they can start biting me. I hit one and knock it one the ground as the remaining butterflies disappeared back into the cloud of smoke. I leaned down and put this one butterfly creature in a net and quickly got back to my hotel room; where I put the butterfly in the organization approved cage. I setup a monitoring station around the cage including cameras all around the cage and motion sensors to alert me of any motion inside of the cage. As I monitored my lack of sleep started catching up with me and I must have doozed off to sleep.
I am normally an incredibly light sleeper however I awoke a few hours later to the cage being destroyed and the creature was gone however there was a note that read: "these are meant to be free and shall never be caged" signed T
I immediately started reviewing the camera footage and witnessed the butterfly wake up and try and dissolve but failing due to something about the cage preventing it. Then watching attacking the cage and showing a jaw the unhinges with a tube like tongue and a single row of razor blade like teeth . After showing its teeth the camera became to get static covered until the video feed was completely impossible to see anything. After a couple minutes of this static you could hear a loud crashing sound like something hit the cage and shattered it and then almost instantly the video feed cleared and I see a hand dropping off the paper and then the butterfly disappearing in a puff of smoke.
I went back to the park the next several evenings but no sightings of the butterflies and no more reports of them where ever brought up to the organization at least that I was aware of.
