Trigger Warning: Domestic Abuse and Language~

December 21
Michael was sitting on a bench and eating his lunch, countless children around his age playing all around him. He was at his new school and so far, he wasn't doing a good job at making friends. It wasn't like he was any good at his other schools either, but he assumed that this one would be different because it was filled with rich kids. His eyes were distant as he took another bite and chewed slowly, a small sigh escaping him as he set it back down. The sandwich was dry and disgusting, but he wasn't really thinking about it.
Michael didn't really like this school. Yes, he enjoyed learning new things and listening to other people's stories, but the students at this school simply asked too much from him. They asked him to talk or to do jobs that he didn't really want to do. Some have even put the blame on him so they wouldn't get in trouble. But it wasn't the same for the school staff. For some reason, they seemed to like him, even though he never participated in class.
Michael looked down at his ham sandwich and swallowed the mush in his mouth dryly. He nearly gagged.
You should teach them a lesson. Or at least speak up.
Michael frowned and defiantly took another bite from his sandwich, which only stuffed his mouth even more. He chewed slowly and grabbed his water bottle as a few girls form his class passed him. They giggled and stared at him, but he didn't really notice at all. Michael had alway been handsome for his age, but girls were the last thing on his mind. Michael looked up and saw the girls giggling at him before they waved at him and he turned away in embarrassment, a hint of blush on his cheeks. He thought they were making fun of him or sizing him up, which was completely wrong.
Suddenly, a shadow was cast above Michael's head, which caught his attention. Then, a voice reached Michael's ears, the tone so intimidating and powerful that he felt his heart drop.
"Hey, kid. Wanna play a game?" A snarky voice asked.
Michael didn't like where this was going...
Slowly, Michael lifted up his head further and found a young man standing above him, who looked a year older than him. The young male was none other than Jake Turner, the eighth grader who every student looked up to. His hair was a dark, dirty blond and his eyes were a cold, icy blue, his blue uniform bringing out the intensity of his eyes. Michael felt himself shrivel up from Jake's presence as he turned his body to face the eighth grader. It wasn't because he was filthy rich or because he was super good-looking that made Jake popular. It was because everything he did and said was filled with authority and power. Even the teacher's respected him. Out of fear? Nobody knows.
Michael hesitated before he shook his head, his cheeks reddening from the sudden attention.
Jake smirked and looked back at a group of boys behind him, a group that Michael hadn't noticed till now. "What? You can't talk?"
Michael stared up at Jake earnestly before he dropped down his head in shame, eventually shaking his head. Jake let out a small laugh that sent shivers down Michael's spine. Michael couldn't tell if they were out of terror or out of relief. Either way, Jake's laugh sounded like the laughter of angels.
After regaining his composure, Jake took a step closer to Michael and smiled down at him, cocking his chin up. "You know. If you talked a little more, maybe you wouldn't be such a loner."
Michael felt as though he was being pushed in front of the spotlight while Jake's group of friends started to chuckle. Michael wished he could just hide under a rock and avoid this confrontation, but from the way people were staring at him, it was like they were waiting for him to say something.
