FLASHBACK

I was walking through the forest by myself. I constantly had people around me so I wanted a taste of freedom. When my guards weren't looking, I ran away as fast as my little legs could take me. It was fun to play with the tiny animals and explore all around the forest. When I saw a huge waterfall, my eyes glistened. While examining the water I found a hidden spot just behind the rocks.

It was slippery but I managed to get inside the cave without fail. The cave was so pretty, I then realized that this was the place I would go to escape from the guards. Two hours later when I decided it was time for me to go back, I walked back over the rocks only to find myself slipping and falling right onto my head. That was the last thing I remembered before I blacked out.

...

"Hey little girl, wake up"

When I didn't budge, the man before me got irritated.

"Stop sleeping and wake up already!"

I heard faint voices which caused me to open my eyes just the slightest. When my eyes started to open fully, I saw a tall man with bandages over his mouth and with him a girl who looked a little older than me. Before I could process anything, the pain from my head all came flooding back and a cried while holding my head.

"Are you kidding me, don't cry now, this is what you get for trying to walk on such a dangerous area by yourself," the man spoke while crossing his arms.

"Zabuza-sama, this girl doesn't look any older than 3 years old, she probably doesn't know any better," the girl said in a calm voice.

"Well this oughta teach her," the man clicked his tongue.

The girl sat down right beside me as I held my head up. She put her hand on my head and I started to feel the frostiness of her hands. The cold soothed my head making the pain go numb. I stopped crying and stared at her in awe.

"Does it still hurt," she asked.

"No it doesn't, thank you miss," I said and she looked at me in confusion.

"Um, I'm a boy"

...?

"Huh?"

"My name is Haku, and this is Zabuza-sama," the now-boy said.

I looked at him to see any signs that he was lying but he wasn't. I turned my head to the other man when I heard faint chuckles emitting out of him.

"Looks like you can pass for any gender Haku," the man said still laughing.

"I suppose so," Haku said and sighed.

"Anyways, what's your name kid," Zabuza asked me.

When I was just about to answer, I realized something. I don't know what my own name was. Who was I even? When they noticed my confusion, Haku spoke up towards Zabuza.
