Chapter 13 | Conversations 🍈

Your heart beats loudly as Tengen-sama joins you under the blanket. There's little space between the two of you.
Tengen-sama immediately turns his back towards you.

Am I this disgusting? you think.

You lay on your back for a while forcing yourself to fall asleep. It of course doesn't work so you try to calm down by listening to Tengen-sama's breathing. Sadly he breathes so silent it's more exhausting than relaxing to listen to it.
You'd love to sigh but you don't want him to know that you're annoyed and awake. His comments is the least you need now.

Trying your luck otherwise you turn on your side staring at the dark wall plus begin thinking of something happy. Your thoughts drift to Yoshiwara, the town you were born in. It's a vivid town where the fun never ends. The nights are as bright as the days due to the hundreds of lights. This town is like an opposite to the rest of the world. Whereas other towns live in the daytime, open their shops in the daytime, receive customers in the daytime, Yoshiwara does EVERYTHING at night. If you visit Yoshiwara around midday you won't see anybody. You will believe the town is extinct. It's so silent you can even hear caterpillars crawl on leafs. But at night....you sigh....at night there's music, there's party, there's endless joy.

It's been so long since you have been there. There's nothing waiting for you except for debts tho but you're sure that at least Aoki-san would welcome you. Maybe even a bit more.

The bed squeaks as Tengen-sama suddenly turns around his face now towards your back. The speed of your heartbeat rises.
Excited you hold your breath for a couple of seconds.

Aaah! He's so close!

Around four minutes pass where you breath as shallowly as possible. Tengen-sama's breath is now louder than before.
"Are you excited?", his raspy voice hums in your ear.

You don't turn around. Even though it's dark you're sure he would see your tomato face.
"You mean tomorrow? A bit", you whisper.

You can feel him grinning.
"I forgot to tell you something. Haganezuka-san has got a new katana for you. He will be here tomorrow morning in time. It's your choice if you will fight in the one or two sword style" he confesses.

That's the moment where you turn around and face him.
Gosh he's so good-looking.

"You ordered a new katana for me?!", you repeat not believing what you heard.

"I once told you that I see potential in you that I want to see bloom in its fullest."
He raises an eyebrow.
"As we're talking about 'blooming' Kanao will most likely use the insect breathing if she comes after her mentor. She's very fast and her attacks contain poison which is very effective against demons but tomorrow she isn't allowed to severely harm her opponents. That will cause trouble for her. She won't be like Hachiko."

This Kanao gets more interesting with every sentence he says. How he describes her you get an image of a strong tricky girl you should pay respect to.

"Why are you telling me this?,  you ask truly confused.

Normally he would just leave you to yourself and watch.
There's a short break where only your breath fills the silence.

"It's also my reputation that depends on your winning", he answers a bit arrogant.

"Of course", you murmur with an annoyed voice.

Your eyes wander around in the dark not wanting to confront the eyes of Tengen-sama.

"I also want to support you. I want you to win if that's what you want", he adds more silent.

You look at him. His eyes look vivid and dead at the same time but you can tell he is honest.
