Encounter

You try to keep your breathing as calm as possible as you lead Dominic to a more secluded place in the unit. While he is quite beautiful, he is also extremely intimidating. He is almost a foot taller than you and has muscles for days.

You reach a small sitting area still close to Luca's room but far enough where no one can hear your conversation. You take a seat and Dominic takes the seat beside you.

"Luca really has taken a liking to you I see," he says with a soft smile.

You smile back, "well for what its worth I've taken a liking to him as well. He really is a sweet kid."

He lets out a smile laugh and gently places his hand on your knee, causing you to blush. You try to hide your face as much as possible without making it obvious. "My brother and his wife speak very highly of you. They had actually mentioned you before I came here last night. Going on and on about how smart, kind and beautiful you were. I don't usually listen to my brother but in this case he was right. Please don't tell him I said that, I'll never hear the end of it."

You giggle, "you have my word. I really appreciate that, this job can really take a toll on a person but hearing things like that make it all better. I am quite fond of your family; we have all developed a special bond during Luca's time here."

He nods and locks eyes with you, "Ana I know we have just met but I feel as though there is some sort of connection between so I'm just gonna bite the bullet and ask you out on a date. And believe me when I say that is something I never do."

You look into his eyes with complete shock written all over your face and can't form coherent words. He laughs, "are you alright?"

You let out a small cough, "uh..yeah...sorry. I truly appreciate that Dominic but you can do far better than me I assure you. I mean look at you, you could get any girl in the city you wanted. And then there's me who put her scrub top on inside out tonight."

His smile grows even wider, "you aren't wrong; I could get any girl I wanted. But I want you. So, Ana, would you do me the honor of going on a date with me?"

You blush ferociously and look down at your lap, "I'm not sure what to say. Um, yeah, yeah I will go on a date with you. I do have to work the next two nights though. Could we maybe Monday? I know that's a weird day of the week for a date but that's the life of a weekend night shift nurse. But if that doesn't work for you just tell me what does. I'll be free until next Friday after Sunday night."

He lets out a small laugh at your rambling and bright red cheeks, "Monday is perfect, sweetheart."

You smile up at him, "I should probably go and check on Luca. Are you gonna be staying tonight? I know Antonio and Nikki are out for the night and won't be back until the morning."

He considers it, "well I actually hadn't planned on it but now I can't seem to want to leave. So yeah, I'll stay tonight until they get back in the morning. But only if you promise to make frequent visits to his room."

You smile and nod at him, "deal."

You both get up from your seats and head back into Luca's room. He is still sound asleep so you go about your usual routine of assessments and charting. Unknown to you that Dominic is watching your every move from the couch. They way your long hair falls on your shoulders when you bend over the bed to listen to Luca's breathing, they way your eyes burn with concentration when you are messing with his IV, the way you ever so slightly bite your cheek when looking at the monitor, and, his personal favorite, the way you shift your weight between your legs while you are standing at the computer charting. He can't help but let his eyes roam all over your body from behind you. While you aren't the skinniest you aren't large either. Just the right amount of curves for a man to hold. And that's all he can think about.

The night passes on as you and Dominic make conversation in between your tasks. As the sun starts to come up you are finishing up your charting at the computer when Antonio and Nikki walk in. You look over at the door and greet them with a warm smile.

"Good morning you two. Luca had a great night, he slept the whole time. Lab work looks great this morning. I take you both had a good night as well?"

Nikki smiles and nods while bending down to kiss Luca on the head. Antonio walks over and smiles, "we had a great night Ana. Thank you for taking such great care of him while we were gone." He looks over and squints his eyes at Dominic who gives him a small wave and smile.

"I wasn't expecting to see you here, brother. To what do we owe the pleasure of such an early morning visit?"

Dominic gives him a grin, "actually I have been here all night. I came by to check on my dear nephew and sweet Ana informed me that you two were out for the night so I decided to stay until you got back." He gives you a wink and you smile back.

Antonio looks between the two of you and smiles, "yeah I'm sure that was the reason." He turns his attention to you, "isn't it almost time for you to get out of here Ana?"

You smile and nod, "that it is Antonio. I'm glad you both had a wonderful night. Tell Luca I will see him tonight, I don't want to wake him up. Nikki can I get you anything before I leave for the day?"

Nikki smiles, "no dear. Go home and get some good rest. Thank you for taking such great care of him. We will see you tonight."

You give her a curt nod and start to walk towards the door. Dominic jumps from his seat, "allow me to walk you out Ana."

You look back at him in surprise, "alright. I will see you guys tonight. Have a good day." You walk with Dominic out into the hall where he grabs one of your hands and kisses your knuckle like he did when you met. "I look forward to seeing you on our date Ana. Sweet dreams."

You smile, "me too. I will see you then." You turn and make your way back to the nurses station, trying to ignore the feeling of him staring at you as you walk away. He grins and walks back into Luca's room where Antonio and Nikki are standing by the couch with their arms crossed.

"So are you gonna tell us the real reason you came by last night or are you gonna stick with this lie?" Nikki says sternly.

Dominic just shrugs his shoulders and sits down on the couch. Antonio walks over and puts his hand on his shoulder, "oh come on brother, spill it."

Dominic takes a deep breath, "okay fine. I haven't been able to get her out of my brain since I met her the other night. After you told me that you and Nikki were going out last night, I saw the opportunity to speak to her without you two breathing down my neck so I took out. I came in after she got Luca to sleep and we went out in the hall and talked for a while. I took the leap and asked her out to which she said yes."

Antonio smiles and claps his hands, "hah! I knew it! I'm happy for you brother; I think you two would be great together. Do you plan on telling her what it is we do for a living?"

Dominic shakes his head, "how about we get through the first date and then we will worry about that."

Nikki walks up and grabs Dominic's hand, "Dom please be careful with her. We really care for Ana, don't hurt her."

He squeezes Nikki's hand, "I have no intention to do so. Just don't interrogate her about this for the next two nights please. I get the feeling she gets embarrassed very easily."

Antonio makes an X with his fingers across his heart, "you have my word. We won't even bring it up."

Dominic nods and the subject is dropped. Your next two nights of work fly by. As you are getting ready to leave Monday morning you are saying bye to Luca who is upset that you won't be back.

"It's okay buddy. Hopefully when I come back on Friday you won't be in the ICU anymore and I can come and see you on the floor. You will have a bigger tv and your own bathroom in that room." He wipes the tears from his eyes and nods while hugging you. You start to head towards the door when Nikki grabs your shoulder. You turn around and smile at her.

"I hope you have a nice time tonight Ana," she says and gives you a wink. You blush and smile back at her before you leave.

You get home and crawl into bed and are setting your alarm on your phone when you get a text from Dominic. "I hope you sleep well sweet Ana. I can't wait to see you tonight." You smile at your phone and roll over to try and get some sleep before you have to get up and get ready for your date.
