Chapter 1: Sim Jake

I never intended to act like that way towards him. Hence my feelings are messed up since I met him. Him. That Park. Park Sunghoon.

We are 12 when we first met. We met in an awkward circumstances. No family connection. No friends introduction nor accidentally spilling a coffee on him, thus I did accidentally. I accidentally hit him with my ball while I was playing at the quadrangle in lunch time. For me it was my practice time, but for him it's his study time. He was quite tall when I saw him sit up when he agitatedly gave back my ball. I may not-or may- saw that his eyeglasses's glass shattered. He is a very silent guy but very participative when it comes to Mathematics and English. He tops on English contest every year end-atleast that's what I know-. I myself was quite good but I can't tap his own. I can confidentially say I'm very good at physical sports and basket ball is my favorite considering I myself is the captain. The guy seems to hate talking when I initiated a conversation with him. He just silently look back and coldly walk pass me. But now it seems like destiny has a different path as we had a same subject and the teacher groups us together resulting us to talk more than expected. And up until now, the grouping that held us two created a big connection between us. 2014 is when we started being friends. Him opening up to me and I dragging him to my very sociable life.

"What's up with you?"

He ask, lying comfortably on my michael jordan bed sheet, covering himself in a duvet as he attempt to block the coldness of December while a book held on the air as he read it. His new eyeglasses-which I bought after the accident as a compulsory gift- sit on the curve bridge of his beautiful sculptured nose. It was after dismissal when I decide to invite him to a dinner on my house. Lately I am sitting on the ground with my varsity sleeveless shirt and short.

"Mathematics are shaking my notebook hardly. I can't believe after several studies I still got a B on my test paper."

I sigh in defeat after remembering seeing our Mathematics teacher after getting the notification that I need to stabilized my academic grades if I still want to be on the varsity team, more over to be the captain of my team.

"It's better than getting F Jake, I mean your getting good by semester and I can see that your really trying your best. I still remember you crying over on your way to my apartment when you almost lost your position as the captain on the basket ball team."

He chuckle trying to encourage and make me relax a little. Him on the other side is always A plus. An A plus top student. I wonder what he does on his break time when ever we wouldn't meet. His way of reading the book now push me to ask him.

"Hey Hoon."

"Yeah?"

He said carefully anticipating.

"Do you uhm... do you want me to get good grades?"

He froze on his recent doing and face me, still lying down.

"Yes of course..." He said as he continue to ask, "Why?"

He murmurs almost like a whisper but I hear him too well.

Apparently when we were trying to know each other, I also happened to know that he was an orphan at the age of 8.

His father has a cancer after almost taking in 15 cigarettes per day. His mother took her life out after not getting over her husband's death not even thinking about her own son or neven had a plan where to leave her son after she's gone. When they died, Sunghoon had to live with his far relatives, promising them and himself that he will leave when he's ready but unfortunately his aunt died leaving him with no choice but to leave and be completely orphab. Pushing him to stay on an orphanage. But I'm glad he is already with his foster family. The family has a young 5 years old son who seems to love seeing Sunghoon. But after turning 15 he decide to ask his parents to have his own apartment and he will work for a part time job on a down town substore at a very silent neighborhood in Seoul. Half of the tuition is paid by Sunghoon himself. And he has his own schedule every week ends. And he has been doing that for 3 years up until now.
