Stiles' POV

"Checkmate!" I cheer out at a now scowling Peter.

He huffs while flicking a chess piece over. "Well, you beat me a lot faster than I thought you would have."

I chuckle while placing all the pieces back into the box along with the board. "Thank you, I distinctly remember a very scary, power-hungry Alpha once telling me I was the intelligent one among my pack."

Peter smirks at me. "Yes, well that was also me trying to convince you to not only help me, but also accept the bite."

I give him an uneasy look as he keeps my gaze. "Well no offense, but I still don't want it. I very much enjoy being human and plus the bite could just kill me."

Peter smiles and sighs heavily while leaning back in his chair. "You're right, but still being equal to everyone else- not having to constantly dress wounds and hide bruises sounds lovely does it not?"

With his words I find myself biting the inside of my cheek and avoiding his gaze. "Yeah, it does sound nice, but I don't think it's worth the risk of dying."

Peter nods and stands while patting my back lightly. "That we agree on it Stiles."

He leaves to head outside and I find myself perplexed. Did that mean that Peter cared about whether I lived or died? I mean, we grew slightly closer from the whole dating his daughter thing, but we also still had our issues after the whole Lydia thing when he was the scary Alpha. I guess it does make sense considering I was the only one in his corner after he helped us a couple times with some supernatural troubles after he came to life. He isn't a very bad guy, just like Derek, everyone thought both of the brooding Hale's were scary and dangerous when in reality they are very cuddly bears. Both of the men have been through way too much in their lives and I'm very understanding of some of the mistakes they've made. Losing someone close to you can really damage your perspective on things, losing Mom did a lot to me too, so I couldn't imagine losing my entire family.

I look up at hearing the door open and see Derek walk through the living room with his signature glare. Quickly, I realize his glare is directed at me and I immediately feel the need to run for my life. He stalks towards me and I scramble to run but he's right on top of me within seconds. I panic and throw the box with chess items in it and watch in horror as it hits him directly in the face.

The box falls to the floor and he stares at me in shock. "What the hell, Stiles!"

I look down to see his hand is gripping my arm and my heart rate increases by how close he is to me. "Me? You're the one stalking at me like I'm a helpless bunny!"

Derek blanches and drops his grip on my arm, stepping back slightly to put more space between us. "I-I wasn't trying to freak you out or anything, but I got a call outside. From your Dad."

I instantly shrink back knowing I'm dead meat now. I haven't bothered calling my Dad in a few days because I knew he was on a fishing trip with some of his buddies, finally getting some free time to just relax, so I didn't want to bother him any. I know he's been texting me but I know it's only from parental concern and I would rather he focused on himself for once.

Derek growls out lowly, "Why haven't you been answering his texts? He thought something happened to you while we were here, almost made a trip out to us."

I internally groan while rubbing the back of my neck. "Sorry, I just wanted him to, for once, focus on himself and not bother with what I'm doing. He works too hard for both of us and deserves a break- a normal vacation with his friends."

Derek scowls at me before quickly fixing his face to a more genuine one. "Stiles, he's your father. He's always going to worry about you, no matter if he's enjoying himself or not. He thinks about you the same way, you know. He knows you always focus on others more than yourself."
