Milkshake catastrophe

I'm so thankful my boss, Adam, had errands to run and stopped to give me a lift to work. As we pulled into a parking spot, thunder rolled and lightning cracked loudly. Adam has always been sweet, and nice to me and he's only 3 years older than me. My mom told me to forget Kyler and I ever dating and just date Adam because he seems to be interested. And she's right he is, but something about him makes me not want a relationship with him.

"Okay Lizzie, my boss mode is on, you are to take care of tables one through four and your side work isn't much." Adam says walking inside the back door of the Diner. With that said we part ways, Adam goes to the office and I go to my section. My smile fades as I get to my section when I see Kyler sitting with Emma, the wicked witch ex girlfriend. What the HELL is he doing?

Biting my lip, regaining my self control, I walk over. "What can I help you with tonight," I say trying to fake a smile, but my voice gives my frustration away.

"Ewww, of course it would be you. Did you switch sections just to stalk Kyler?" Emma says with a nasty tone. Remembering I have to keep my job to pay for a car before going to college.

"Emma, can you not today and just let me do my job?" I say with the fakest smile on my lips and my voice extremely bubbly. Kyler, who hasn't said anything or has looked at me, finally lifts his head. He has a black eye, a busted lip, and he looks like he hasn't slept since Saturday when I seen him last.

Kyler gives me a half-hearted smile that gives me chills. The sadness in his eyes hurts my soul. I want to ask what's wrong and what happened to him, but Emma is here and I'm not dealing with her hateful ass.

"I come in here everyday and get a strawberry milkshake. So like why don't I have one in my hand already? Go make it and leave us. Oh and don't forget Kylers order stalker." Emma says rolling her eyes, turning to look at Kyler. Gosh, she really pisses me off.

I turned to leave and Kyler got up. I ran to Adam and asked if he could make the shake for me. I waited for Kyler outside the bathroom.

"How did I not know you would be here waiting for me," Kyler voice cracks and he gives me the same smile as before.

Trying not to hug him, or cry,"What happened Kyler William, and do not lie," I say in a low whisper. "While you are at it, can you explain why you ran to Emma and not me? You know your best-FUCKING- friend?" I say that just a little too loud, Adam looks at me sideways.

"Oh you know, got accepted into the biggest football college in Texas, my dad was upset that I don't want to work with him, and my moms boyfriend tried beating on her again. I stepped in and his buddy didn't like I was protecting my mom," Kyler says with his head hanging low, and I can see his lip quiver.

"Lizzie, order up! Let's go, we have down time after you get this order done." Adam shouts for the drink station.

"It's okay Lizzie, we can talk after work, I'll pick you up as long as you bring some fries and milkshakes." Kyler says before walking back to Emma.

Getting Kyler's order done and plated, I go and grab Emma's shake. Walking over, Kyler smiles that bright smile, "Gosh, I'm so hungry, thanks Lizzie you always make it so perfect." With that he blows me a kiss and takes a bite.

Out of the corner of my eye, I see a fast movement. Before I even know what's happening, I feel a cold, sticky liquid all over me, and Kyler has his plate of food in his lap.

"Emma, get out of this diner, Lizzie go home and get cleaned up, Kyler I'll make you a new plate if you take Lizzie home to get cleaned up," Adams voice booms from behind me, startling me. I turn slowly, I can't see well with a milkshake all over my face. I grab the towel Adam is handing me and I start walking.

I walk outside, and I just keep walking. The rain is really coming down but I don't care. What in the world is her problem.? Why didn't Kyler say anything? Is he giving her another chance?

I make it two blocks before I hear Kylers truck abruptly stopping next to me.

"Get in crazy girl!" Kyler has to yell over the thunder and lightning. "Emma thinks we are getting back together, and you know she's always been jealous of our relationship."

"Are you freaking stupid? You are getting back together with the girl who cheated on you, who slapped you in front of a college scout, who has made my life a living hell?" I shout and walk faster.

I hear the truck door close, and Kyler grabbing my arm. I'm forced to look up at him. Even with a busted up face, he makes my heart flutter. He is so handsome.

"Why are you mad? She thinks I want her back but I don't. You had to work so I didn't want to bother you, and she knows me," Kyler says as he pulls me into a hug. "So again why are you so mad? I didn't throw a milkshake on you."

In that moment, my head and my heart go to war.
My head: because Emma is the devil and you are an angel on Earth.
My heart: because I have been in love with you since forever just too scared to tell you.

"Well, crazy girl since you aren't going to tell me, mind hopping in the truck so we don't get sick, and so your dad doesn't kill me." Smiling that smile that makes my knees weak.

Covered in a strawberry milkshake, in the pouring rain , I, Lizzie Ryan, blurts out "Because if you weren't a dumb jock and not completely and utterly blind, you would see that I have been in love with you since you saved me from your grandpa's rooster when we were 7! I didn't want to tell you because I was afraid of losing you, but I don't care anymore. Emma is gonna make me lose you anyways, so might as well tell you everything." Feeling as if I went through my first ever panic attack, and me being a coward that I am, I'm too afraid of what Kyler will say, I bolt home.
