Chapter 14 - Back to Square One

I roughly wipe away the tears as I exit Ken's house. I drank some tea and ate a cookie with Ms. Ender. She seemed so ruined! It was so hard for me to watch as she sobs. I had to hide the alcohol bottle I found in the fridge when I got some water. She can't drink her life away! I wonder how Jenna is holding up. Does she even know?

I pulled out my phone and saw I got a missed call from Emily. I sigh and debate whether to call her back or call Jenna. Jenna definitely. It's her brother we're talking about. My fingers betray me as I press the 'call back' button.

"Hey!" Emily chirps on the other end.

"Hey...?" I don't know if I should be scared or worried. Probably both. "Why did you call?"

"Well, I wanted to share some devastating news." She sighs.

"And that is...?" I trailed off for her to finish. Spill woman! I thought to myself.

"Ken was such a good friend. He would always be there for me and-" I couldn't hear anymore. It's like if my ears got plugged.

She. Knows. Ken.

I tried to adjust to the new information, but my brain would simply not comprehend it. It's as if I didn't want to accept it.

"Wait... Y-You know Ken?" I stutter slightly.

"Yeah. Do you?"

"He's my friend."

"What?! He's my boyfriend!" She laughs drily on the other end.

"Wait, how do you know he's dead?" I ask the most stupidest question.

"He's my boyfriend, dumbass." I can just imagine her rolling her eyes.

"But..."

"Yeah. I killed him. Love you! Bitch." She hangs up. I try to process the fuck just happened.

I dial Natalie's number without noticing.

"What?" Natalie groggily asks.

"Hey. I know I hate you but let me tell you this."

"What?"

"Anyways, Emily was dating Ken and killed him."

"Wait, KEN?!" That caught her attention.

"Yes, Ken." I groan.

"Are you not shocked?" She asks.

"No. I knew Emily was somehow gonna do something evil."

"But..." Suddenly, Jenna starts calling me.

"Yeah, I know. Crazy. But got to go. Bye!"

"Wait-"

"Hey Jen!" I smile, getting into my car.

"Hey." She sounds devastated. "Ken is-"

"Shh. I know." I sigh.

"Yeah." It's awkward...

"Well... Jamie is here and..."

"Oh, yeah! Um, bye." I hang up. Jenna never liked long conversations. I sigh.

Why do I feel like I'm empty? Alone? Sad? You know the feeling when you feel like you just restarted? Yeah. That feeling.

The feeling when you feel like you're back at square one?

I'm so sorry this chapter sucks balls! I'm so sorry! But I hope 456+ words kinda makes it up! I'm having a terrible disease called Writer's Block. Heard of it? Yeah, it's really common. Haha. So, Daughter of a Maril is also on hold because apparently, the disease is so strong, I got nothing at all. And school is making this 10x worst! Ok, stop ranting Ali. Gosh. Sorry, bye! Haha.
