Met you on the other side (Merman AU) Pt. 1

I was running down the street in a rush to get home or to a store for some water, it was extremely hot today so the water might be sold out. I finally made it home after running for 5 more minutes, it doesn't sound like much but it was just too hot for me.

"I should go to the beach today, I still have to wait for the Air conditioner to get fixed so I think swimming is the best idea."

I went to go change out of my sweaty school uniform and change into something lighter. I packed up a small beach bag with beach essentials, I went to my kitchen to grab a popsicle and my house keys. I walked out the door and started running down the street attempting to get to the beach on foot since I didn't have a car or bike, after running for 20 minutes I finally made it to the beach. The beach was full of people, there was people from Hope's Peak and from my neighborhood. I never really talked to anyone since I knew they'd try to bully me or they just wouldn't like me for being a bit strict with following the rules. I sat in the sand for a moment to catch my breath so I could go to the other side of the beach, there's less people over there but people also recommend staying on  this side since something happened on the other side before. I kinda wanted to investigate so that's what I did, I started walking to the other side of the beach. While I was walking I felt someone touch my shoulder, it was some random man I flinched and quickly turned around.

"Hey kid you shouldn't go to that side it might not be safe." He sounded very worried but he looked like a pedophile

"Well- Uhm I was just going over there to investigate, mind telling me what happened on the other side?" I pulled out a random notepad and pen

"Um where'd ya get that?-"

"Shh just tell me what happened."

"Well a few years ago some kid and his mom was playing in the water, and him and his mom started to feel fingers on the bottom of their feet. A few moments later the kid noticed his mom struggling to stay above the water, something or someone was pulling her down. When she was fully under the water the kid went under to see what was there, the way he described it he said "It was a human with a tail and some weird glowing jewelry." "He was really scared since his mom never came back up, some researchers came and checked the area for Mermaids or Mermen but there was no sign of any."

"Mhm I see..Thank you now imma go investigate now."

"I'd hate to say this but that's bullshit, who'd believe that?!"

"Didn't I just warn you not to go you dumbass kid?!-"

Before he could even finish scolding me I already walked off and I kinda felt bad for doing that, already on the other side I started putting sunscreen on and afterwards I started digging near the water seeing if there was any "glowing jewelry".

"I've been searching around the beach for a few hours, it was almost time to go home but since I didn't get the chance to go swimming I took my shirt off and got into the water. After swimming for a couple minutes I saw something glowing in the water, I almost forgot I was on the other side of the beach. Then I felt fingers brush against my feet, I held my breath just knowing what could happen. I felt myself getting pulled into the water quickly, when I was under the water I opened my eyes. It was a merman! He had curly brown hair in the front and black hair in the back with a purple tail, the scales on him was super pretty and to be honest he was kind of handsome..the only thing I didn't like on him was the gills

"What do I do?! Do I just stay here? Do I try to escape his grip?"

I waved at him and he waved back at me.

"Hey what's yer name?"

I tried to signal that I can't talk underwater since I'm not a merman like him.

"Oh right you can't talk underwater, I'm a fuckin' idiot."

I felt him push my body above the water, I rubbed my eyes and breathed.

"So what's yer name?"

"O-oh I'm Kiyotaka Ishimaru but you can call me Taka, w-what's your name?"

"The names Mondo Owada nice to meet ya Taka."

I kinda felt my face heat up at the sight of him.

"So why did you pull me underwater?"

"Oh well uhm I'm not sure that's just something that us underwater creatures do."

"Oh alright."

Mondo looked down at the water and started moving his fingers through it.

"Is there something wrong?"

"Well yeah and no.."

"Well what's wrong?"

"Okay so the queen of the sea is planning on turning me into a human since I'm considered useless underwater and I need to find somewhere to stay and if I fail to find a home then I'll be killed or I'd starve as a human...so I was wondering if I could stay with you.."

"Hmm lemme think for a minute.."

"My dad is out of town for the month and if he figured out I'd be in big trouble.. maybe I could get someone to help me..Oh wait the school has dorms.. so if I can find his ultimate then he can be enrolled!"

"Sure you can, you'll stay at my house for a month and then I'll try to get you enrolled in my school."

"really?!"

"Yes but we will have to work a bit hard to get you into my school."

"Okay! also it seems like it's getting late you should get home."

"Wait I need to ask you a question."

"What is it?"

"When do you want me to come get you?"

"I guess you can get me uhm..on Saturday or Sunday."

"Alright! I'll see ya then!"

I got out of the water and gathered all my things, making sure I'm not missing anything and after that I waved him goodbye and started running home. While I was running I was kinda getting cold since I didn't dry off, when I got home I took a hot shower, made dinner, did my homework, and got ready for bed.

"Hmm this will be a bit hard, since it's almost the weekend I have to get the guest room ready."

I slowly started drifting off to sleep as I was thinking about Owada and how hard it would be to help him.
