Book: Starving, Twilight
Chapter 13: You're My Soulmate
Word Count: 1214"This place is..." Aiden was at a loss for words as he looked around the open field, the ground being covered in a bunch of different coloured flowers. He leaned down and ran his hand over one, feeling the soft petals on his finger tips. "Beautiful."
"I've come here before. Just to sit in the peace and quiet. I've never wanted to share this place until I met you." Edward said from behind him.
Aiden leaned back up and turned to look over his shoulder. "I'm that special to you?"
"You mean the world to me, Aiden."
But why? I mean... I'm not anything special, Aiden shook his head. He found it hard to believe that someone that looked like Edward would ever like someone like him.
"Don't think like that. You're worth more then you give yourself credit for."
Aiden furrowed his eyebrows. "How did you - how did you know what I was thinking?"
"There are so many things to tell you. I promised you the truth and that's exactly what I'm going to give you." Edward sat down on the ground, motioning for Aiden to join him.
Aiden sat down next to him with so hesitation. "So, tell me everything." Aiden demanded.
Edward smiled, looking at him with a sparkle in his eyes. "As you know I'm a vampire."
"I do know and I also think that's freaking awesome."
"Not as awesome as you might think." Edward looked towards the ground. "Our kind, some of us have special abilities - powers."
"Wait, like super powers?"
"Yes." Edward confirmed. "I can read minds."
As soon as he said that, Aiden froze. "You've been able to read my mind since I got to town?" Edward nodded his head. "Oh, that's just great. That isn't embarrassing at all."
"You have nothing to be embarrassed about."
"I don't know." Aiden laughed awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck. "I mean, I've thought a lot about you and doing things and... oh, my god you've heard it all."
"It's okay. You were having normal human thoughts - "
"Thoughts that you heard!" Aiden cut him off and ran his hands through his hair. "Really wish you had told me this sooner."
"It's not exactly a great conversation starter."
Aiden sighed and laid back into the grass, staring up at the sky. "You're a vampire that can read minds."
"I'm a vampire that can read minds." Edward confirmed and laid down next to him.
"At this point, I'm sure nothing else you say will come as a surprise." Aiden mumbled. He turned his head and saw Edward had a look on his face. "There's more you have to tell me?"
"So much more."
"Oh. I guess I should have brought snacks." His comment made a musical laugh leave Edward's lips. It was a sound that had Aiden swooning, his eyes drawing down to his lips. His thoughts were suddenly consumed with kissing him - "Crap." He hissed and squeezed his eyes shut. Stop thinking like that!
"Hey, it's okay." Edward said softly. "I like that you think about kissing me."
Aiden's eyes snapped open. "Really?" He couldn't even look at Edward because he was so nervous. "That's a good thing because I think about it a lot."
"I know you do." Edward teased.
Aiden laughed, letting some of his nervousness go. "You know, Bella, she uh, has a thing for you. You probably noticed. She's not subtle about it."
"I have noticed but I can never reciprocate her feelings. My feelings are for you and only for you. For the rest of my eternal life."
Aiden looked at him again. "You feel so much for me but you barely know me. How can you say those things? You could get to know me then realise I'm not what you thought."
"The more I get to know you the more I find out how perfect you are." Edward said and Aiden just shook his head. He was far from perfect. "My kind, we also have what you would call mates."
"Mates?"
"Like soulmates. Once a vampire finds their mate, they're bonded for life. It doesn't always have to be romantic feelings. It could be a friendship or a family bond but they will always be together."
Aiden wasn't dumb. Well, he wasn't that dumb but he could put two and two together. "I'm your mate, aren't I?"
"Yes, you are." Edward said softly. "The second I saw you, I knew. I felt the pull, it felt like my heart was beating again. You're all I could think about."
"But you left."
"I left because I was afraid. Your scent was overwhelming when I first smelt it. It sent my senses wild. I didn't want to hurt you."
"You wouldn't hurt me." Aiden said automatically. "I know you wouldn't. What kind of soulmate am I to you? Friendship, family or... romantic?"
Edward smiled. "Do you really have to ask that question."
Aiden cleared his throat, trying to keep his own smile from his lips. "Right. Understood." The sun broke through the trees and a light shined down on them. Edward's skin lit in diamonds. "I don't think I'll ever get used to that."

Walking back to school, Aiden felt his phone buzz in his back pocket. He got it out and saw it was Bella calling. He sighed and didn't answer. "She is going to be so pissed."
He wasn't looking where he was going and tripped over a root. In a second, Edward was by his side and caught him before he could fall.
They were so close to each other now. Aiden could feel Edward's cold fingers even through his shirt. He slowly looked up, his and Edward's eyes connecting. "Thanks." He said, his voice just above a whisper.
Edward just looked between his eyes and his lips. Being this close to Aiden was making his emotions go wild. He wanted to be even closer to him and feel his warm skin but he could also hear the blood rushing through Aiden's veins.
He would never hurt him. He didn't want to hurt him. He repeated those sentences in his mind.
Aiden didn't know of the internal struggle going on in Edward so he took his chance and began to lean forward. He wanted to kiss Edward so bad and if what Edward said was true, about how he felt about Aiden, he should want to kiss him back just has bad.
Aiden was a shocked and embarrassed when Edward turned his head just as they were about to kiss. "Uh, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that." Aiden rubbed the back of his neck and stepped away from him.
"No, I'm sorry." Edward said quickly. "You did nothing wrong. I want to kiss you. I really want to kiss you but... I don't know if I have full control yet. I'm sorry." Now it was Edward looking away ashamed.
"It's okay." Aiden said with furrowed eyebrows. "Really. I'd never want to make you do something you feel uncomfortable doing." He sighed. "But I trust you."
"I'd never be uncomfortable kissing you." But Edward didn't trust himself. "Let me get you home."
