11/8/21
My eighteenth birthday is in a few days.
I'm excited, but what really is different?
I can vote, and join the military. I would list paying taxes here, but I have been since I started working at sixteen. Taxation without representation, is it?
I can't drink or smoke. This is fine, but if I'm an 'adult' now, shouldn't I be able to partake in 'adult' activities?
Oh and I plan on buying lottery tickets on my birthday, just because I can.
I can also be tried as an adult in court, so exciting!
I used to dream of the day that I would turn eighteen, and honestly I'm already disappointed.
Just like every year, I won't feel any older, and the lack of 'new' things I can do because of my age is severely underwhelming.
I've waited all seventeen years of my life to turn eighteen.
It's not even my birthday yet, and I'm already waiting for three more.
