When I arrived at school the next day, I received an abundance of stares throughout the morning. Girls would whisper to their friend when they saw me approaching, and guys that I usually talk to were blatantly avoiding me. What the heck was everyone's problem? Did something happen that I didn't know about?
Just as the bell rung, I made it to my locker. Last class of the day then I'm out of here. The only highlight of my day so far was seeing Chris this morning. We were up until 1 am talking about anything that came to mind. He's nothing like Jayson, Shannon, and the rest of them characterize him to be. He's actually very sweet. I just wish I had met him sooner, already I can tell he would have been a better boyfriend than Jayson.
"Psst. Yo' Leah." Someone whispered from a distance. I didn't recognize the voice nor did I know where it came from so I shrugged it off. "Okay keep walking like you didn't hear me call you." He whispered a little louder, stepping into view from behind the lockers.
"Josh? Why aren't you in class?"
He scoffed. "I have better things I can be doing than listenin' to Mr. Fletcher talk about how his marriage is failing."
I laughed silently into my hand. He did have a point, still I don't agree with ditching his class. Then again I don't agree with anything labeled as 'mischievous'. "You should come up to the roof with Marisol and me. Chris is up there too." He concluded with a toothy smile.
"I can't. I should really be in class." Standing there talking to him had me 5 minutes late already.
"Oh okay. Chris looks pretty upset about something and I was hoping you could talk to him."
Something was wrong with Chris? "Josh wait."
--
"You lied to me!" were the first words to come from my mouth when I saw that Chris was perfectly fine. He was more than fine actually. He and Marisol were sitting on top of the generator smoking and laughing. I can't believe he lied to me. I can't believe I fell for it.
"Hey guys look who's here!"
"How did you ever manage to get me goodie-two-shoes to ditch class." Marisol giggled. She walked over to me with her arms outstretched and I dodged her attempt to hug me. I am truly upset right now. "Well forget you too. Come on Josh I need some lovin'."
"Nasty little whore."
"You should try being one sometime." Her and Josh disappeared behind the other generator that was much taller and wider than the one her and Chris were sitting on. I cleared my throat loudly; a little sad that he still hadn't acknowledge my presence.
Waving his hand, he motioned me over. "Why are you all the way over there? Come here."
"No."
I wasn't mad anymore, but I wanted him to think that I was. Wobbling he made his way over to me; barely keeping his balance. It was like watching a toddler walk for the first time; bracing themselves to avoid falling. "Are you mad at me?"
"Yes I am."
Wrapping his arms around my waist, I feel an electrical current surge through my body. Watching as he gradually lowered his lips to mines he stops suddenly and I release the breath I was holding in. "Don't be mad baby." I'm instantly in a trance after hearing him call me baby. As bad as I want to be with him I can't. Jayson and I just ended a couple of weeks ago and I don't want Chris to look like the rebound guy.
But a kiss won't hurt will it?
Standing on the tips of my toes, I lean into his face pressing my lips against his. It was a sweet, soft kiss that lasted a good minute. His hand gently roamed up and down my back causing me to break the kiss with a giggle. "What? Was it bad?" Chris asked in a worried tone.
