"i'm going to the alvarez's!" i yelled to mattheo.
"ok!" he shouted back and makes his way to the kitchen, "i'll be at work when you come home from school, can you stay at their flat for a bit?"
"yeah sure, i was planning to anyway," i said slipping on my school shoes.
"ok, have you eaten?" he asked me
"yes." i replied, mattheo gave me an 'i know you're lying' look and i groaned. he walked into the kitchen and grabbed a breakfast bar, which he chucked at me.
"eat," he said giving me a stern look.
i opened the wrapper and walked out the door, i took a small bite out of the bar and then shoved the rest of it into my pocket and made my way to the alvarez family.
"morning." penelope said as i walked into her apartment.
alex looked up from his plate giving me a smile before diving back into his food.
"mami, we already have crosses everywhere. do we really need a pope on the fridge?" penelope asked
"oh, yes, because he is so inspiring. you walk in to get a yogurt, you see him. hola, papa. puts a smile on your face." lydia grinned,
i sat next to alex and started playing with the table mat. alex offered me some of his toast which i declined, "you ate right?" alex asked me. i nodded and took out the breakfast bar in my pocket to show i had some sort of food.
"oh. oh, what's that, papa? are you lonely? you wanna be with your friends? bueno, juan pablo y benedicto te están esperando. oye, mira eso. he looks happy there." penelope said making me laugh.
lydia waved off her daughter and put another pope on the counter. god, i love this family.
------
all of us, except penelope were sat around the table eating dinner. elena had her friend carmen round and we were all getting to know her.
we ate for around 15 minutes before penelope came home.
"welcome home, lupita. we are almost done, but there is plenty left." lydia said, greeting her daughter.
"aw. dinner with my entire family... and schneider and rosemary." penelope said and walked over to me, gently hugging me.
"yes, i invited them again. mattheo had to work and schneider's an orphan." lydia said
"do orphans always have rich dads who buy them buildings?" alex asked
"hey, i may have money in the bank and two living parents, and four living step-mothers but there is a hole in here. we never had family meals. i ate alone in front of the tv." schneider defended
"ay, pobrecito schneider." lydia said
"oh, don't get me wrong. it was a massive tv. sometimes my nanny would join me, but only if I agreed to watch telenovelas." schneider continued
"ooh, those are so over the top." elena groaned
"right? this one time, rosa got jealous of the housekeeper 'cause she was making a move on her man, so she threatened to throw live scorpions on her while she slept." schneider said
"sounds good. which one was that?" lydia asked
"oh, no. rosa was my nanny. ex-nanny. now, step-mother. I am so glad to be here." schneider explained, sighing.
"i'm just glad to be home with everybody." penleope said to her family.
as soon as she said that, carmen walked out of the bathroom and sat in penelope's chair.
