Of all the things that could have happened, Sage had not thought that climbing a tall building in the heart of Piltover was going to be one of them. She looked up at everyone as they started climbing the wall in front of them. Vi was already a distance ahead of the others. A sigh passed Sage's lips, and she began her way up. She heard grunts and pants coming from her friends above her.
Soon after she began climbing, she looked up and saw Vi looking down at everyone from her spot higher up. "We're almost there." Vi's words of encouragement flew past the green-haired girl's head when she lost her grip on one hand. Her body swung into the wall as she held on with her other arm.
"Aw, man," came from Claggor while Sage got her grip on the wall back, brushing the incident off. She prayed that no one saw, specifically Mylo. He picked on her mistakes a lot and on Powder's even more. He's an asshole anyway, and ugly, an ugly asshole, she thought, smiling to herself.
They made their way up to the rooftop one by one, with Vi being the first one to make it, followed by Powder. Sage waited for Claggor and Mylo to move out of the way when she heard Vi call out, "Hey, Powder. Come take a look." Sage watched Powder haul herself over the ledge and disappear. A pang of jealousy stirred in her chest. She wanted Vi to acknowledge her too, as much as Powder.
Sage let out a loud exhale and pulled herself over the ledge, stunned by the view. Though she hated Topside and what the people here had done, it was mesmerising. Countless buildings had red and blue rooftops with tall chimneys decorated with many ornaments. Further away, an enormous citadel, in which all the council members lived.
As Mylo and Sage walked up to the rest of the group, a great airship flew over their heads, making them look up. "One day, I'm gonna ride in one of those things," said Powder in a dreamy voice while she looked at it in awe.
"And one day, I'm gonna shoot one of 'em down," added Mylo, extending his arm to make a finger gun, pretending to shoot the airship. Vi knocked Mylo's arm away and flashed him a disapproving face when she walked past him. His lips pulled into a smirk in an unbothered fashion.
"Do you ever shut up?" asked Sage, tired of his comments and Mylo in general. She looked up at him with her arms crossed in front of her chest. Powder, who found amusement in Sage's choice of words, nudged her lightly and giggled quietly.
Mylo raised an eyebrow when he looked at her, his smirk vanishing. "Who taught you to talk like that?" he asked while they followed behind Vi. Sage pointed a finger at him. "Me? Pff. I would never-" Mylo was cut off by Claggor, who had more important things to talk about at the time being.
"Vi, are-, are you sure about this? Look, if we get caught, we're-" Claggor stammered. He was becoming more and more nervous the closer they got to their destination. It was visible. Sage, in contrast, could not sleep the entire previous night. Excitement kept her up. She looked at Claggor and wondered how he could not be excited about what they could find.
Vi stopped Claggor from terrorising himself with fear any further. She told him, in a calm tone, "We're not gonna get caught. We'll be in and out before anyone notices." Sage adored Vi for always keeping her cool on these jobs. She hoped that when she reached their age, she would be just like Vi.
Sage counted her steps as she followed behind the others. She saw Powder stop in front of her, so she made her way to stand next to Powder. When Sage looked at the blue-haired girl, she noticed that Powder was already watching her closely, her face looking paler than usual.
