THE NEXT DAY
"I gotta tell you somethin'," Lacey began another one of her days being dragged by Sookie--her face throwing an apologetic look to Sam as her sister rudely interrupted their conversation.
"Ow, Sook--I do need that arm when you're done with it, ya' know(?)" The taller sibling whined, holding her arm and rubbing at the light bruise a particular Viking dick hadgenerated the night before. "What's got you so jumbled?"
"It's Sam," Sookie's shaky breath quickly had Lacey forgetting about her aching arm, a rage building in her gut as her protective instincts kicked in.
"What did he do? I'll kill him."
"No, he didn't physically hurt me or nothin'—" the younger girl received a punch to her arm, "Ow! What was that for?!"
"Don't open a sentence like that, you idiot!" Lacey scolded, "Do you know how close I was to punchin' Sam Merlotte's teeth in(?)" The girl sucked in a calming breath, "Now, what is it that's got you so shook up?"
"Well, you know how I went to Bills last night?" Lacey nodded along, "Well that cute dog that's always hangin' 'round here followed me. So I let it in, took it up to bed an all that--even gave it the name Dean--"
"I'm sorry, Sookie, but is this actually goin' somewhere?"
"The dog was Sam!"
"What?"
"He's a shapeshifter--or shifter, as he said. Turned into a dog right in front of me!"
Lacey's brows raised briefly, a lot of facts slotting into place now she knew Sam's true nature."...Well, that explains the animal noises when I read his mind. Is that why you're mad at him?" A disbelieving brow was raised.
"How do you know I'm mad at him?"
"Because, before you so rudely interrupted us, he was askin' how you were--tellin' me how you weren't talkin' to him, and then you crashed into the picture before I could probe any further."
"Well, he kept it a secret from us. All this time he's known what we can do and he never once thought to share that part of himself."
"Well, not everyone in the world is as open as we are, Sook--Heck! Vampires only came out of the coffin a couple of years ago. You think they were spoutin' their secret to anyone who'll listen' before then?"
"Still. He kissed me, Lace--he wanted to have sex with me. Was he ever gonna tell me before he tried?"
Lacey sighed, "Look, I know you must be feelin' betrayed, and all sorts of hurt anyway because of Bill's tribunal. But just try not to lash out at Sam--" The elder held up a hand to pause Sookie's interruption, "I agree that him keepin' it a secret was wrong when he wanted to get all intimate," Sookie struggled to strangle her blush. "But he cares about you so much, Sook--more than most in this run-down town. At least give the guy a break, even if ya need a bit of breathing room from him."
