THE NEXT DAY
"Oh, Mrs. Fortenberry. You shouldn't have." Lacey struggled not to gag at the casserole shoved in her face.
Her place in the kitchen seemed permanent. The eldest Stackhouse refused to leave the room when she gave up on falling back into the little sleep she could manage. The knowledge of the people walking around her home relayed through Tara's updates and any of them that were desperate enough to see the freak show and actually came to see her. Sookie sat beside her, the girls although unable to cry, clutched hands with a mighty force in joint mourning.
"You poor girls. I am so sorry for your loss," Mrs. Fortenberry's thoughts screamed otherwise; 'Neither of 'em cares enough to cry?'
"That's very kind of you," Sookie responded as Laceys' jaw clenched. "Gran often talked about you, so..." Tara removed the toxic meal from sight.
"Adele was just an Angel sent from heaven. Too good for this world. We're all gonna miss her so much." --'I heard they almost cut off her head. I don't see any blood, should've gotten here sooner. Maybe I should have brought my red velvet cake instead.'
The brunette stood in a rush, "Excuse me." Lacey's tone was dead, the attempt to muster false emotions almost impossible right now.
"Oh, Lacey. I just can't believe it. Are you all right?" Arlene halted her attempt to exit the kitchen for the first time all day.
"I'm fine, Arlene. Thanks for comin', Sookies in there--"
"Well, the least I could do is come." Black tracks stained her cheeks and let all know she'd been sobbing, "Oh, you poor thing. I can't imagine what you're goin' through. Now, if you need help with moving or anything at all--"
"Uh--I-I'm not movin', I'm not movin'."
"But, honey. With it happening right here..."
"I have far more good memories of that kitchen than bad ones."
"Oh, what a good way to look at it. You know, you really are smarter than anyone gives you credit for." Lacey bit her tongue with a struggle, turning as to not entertain this conversation further and retreating to the kitchen once again. "Oh, sweetie. I didn't mean it like that--"
Yet whatever Arlene had to say didn't matter, the second Lacey saw the actions of who resided in the kitchen. Her resolve snapped. "MAXINE FORTENBERRY, YOU PUT THAT PIE DOWN RIGHT NOW!" The dish was snatched as everything finally erupted, "I Am Sick Of Bein' Your FREAKSHOW! A good woman died in this house and all you FUCKTARDS Can Think About Is Whether You Brought The Right Comfort Food Or That My Kitchen Isn't A Bloodbath And The Room Don't Stink Of DEATH!" Tears finally fell, "And now you wanna take my Grans pie out the fridge to make room for your little offerings that are supposed to make me believe you actually cared for her(?) Fuck You!"
