It was a fairly warm fall day. One of the last good days of the season, you are determined to make the most of it. You grab your book and your jacket and head outside. You walk until you reach your destination.  You sit on your favorite bench that overlooks the large grey lake. You settle in to your romance book, allowing yourself to be transported to a place of chivalrous guys and grand romantic gestures. You are fully absorbed in your book when you hear someone clear their throat above you. You look up into the bluest eyes you have ever seen. You stare up at the boy standing in front of you, a little unsure at why he was standing in front of you looking like that.

“Hi…” You say, trying to see what he wanted.

“Um is this seat taken?” He asks in a beautiful Irish accent. His tone suggests that he had already said this, but you were too deep into your book to notice. You immediately move the jacket away from the bench next to you, making room for the boy. He sits down next to you with a sigh, he fully settles into the bench, making it look like he had been sitting there relaxing for hours instead of seconds. You glance sideways at this blonde haired boy, wondering what exactly was going on inside his head. He looks a bit familiar but you can’t seem to place him. His blue eyes meet yours and he gives you an adorable grin. You can’t help but smile back at his infectious smile.

“Hi, I’m Niall.” He says sticking his hand out. You take his hand and shake it, recognizing now where you knew him from. He was one of the members of One Direction. What he was doing sitting next to you on a bench in your small town was a mystery with you.

“Ah One Direction” You say. He gives you another huge smile.

“What book are ya reading?” He asks you. You immediately take the put and put it next to you, using your jacket to cover the title.

“Oh nothing, just some random book.” You say, a bit reluctant to show this adorable stranger that you are reading a book titled Midnight Lovers, romance books like this were your secret love, and you didn’t really like to broadcast it. Niall looks at you with raised eyebrows then he leans over you, his arms brushing against your legs. He lifts your jacket off the book and picks it up to get a closer look.

“Ah, a romantic I see.” You blush and try to take the book from him, but he holds it out of your reach and grabs your hand instead. He looks at the simple silver ring on your finger. “So if the fact that you are sitting alone reading romance books didn’t already tip me off, the fact that tip of the heart on your Claddagh Irish ring is faced outward shows me for sure that you are single.” You blush again and pull your hand away, not sure what to say to his statement. You are still thinking of something to say when Niall suddenly changes the subject. His mind seems to move at a mile a minute. “So, tell me about yourself.” You look at him, trying to gauge his seriousness. His blues eyes sparkle with sincerity; he seems truly interested in hearing about your life. You debate for a little bit, eventually deciding that if Niall wanted to hear about your life, you would tell him. The two of you sat there and talked for hours, taking turns telling stories about your life. The two of you talked until the sun started setting over the lake. You are amazed at how well you and Niall get along. If feels like you have known him your whole life, you are completely comfortable with him and feel like you can tell him anything. In addition to feeling at ease with him, Niall is a lot of fun to talk to. He is so carefree and you love how easily he laughs. Hanging out with him is the most fun you have had in a while.

You really don’t want to say goodbye to him, but it is getting late and you have an 8am class and really need to head back to your dorm. You stand up and go to put on your jacket, Niall jumps up and helps you with it.

“Well…” You say, not really sure what to say. “I am really glad that you decided to randomly wander over to my bench today. It was nice meeting you and getting to know you Niall.”
