The Fire Nation has waged war across the other element bending nations for almost 100 years. For a little while now, their conquest across the world has been going at a slow pace. The Fire Nation has expanded across the world dominating a good amount of Earth Kingdom's western and southern territory. Having control over a vast amount of land isn't the only thing they've accomplished, a series of war crimes relating to the other nations is also big news. The Air Nomads have been decimated, and the Southern Water Tribe has no waterbenders plus a small population. The Avatar was the only person who kept the peace in these lands and has been gone for 100 years. Without the Avatar, peace has deteriorated which leads up to the position everyone is today but soon that'll change.
An Admiral for the Fire Nation had just finished a meeting with Fire Lord Ozai. The fleet under this Admirals command had just found a peculiar structure in the ocean and reports that it leads to another place. While the Fire Nation was still caught up in a conquest and domination mission in the Earth Kingdom, hearing this structure open up was like "a gate to another world" like the Admiral said made Ozai think.
While Ozai didn't believe it at first, he believed it after the Admiral also claimed that there was land on the other side and had requested to assemble an expeditionary force across to claim the land there. Ozai approved and agreed seeing the benefits from coming across something like this. He thought the Fire Nation was unstoppable, after all they were the most up to date military force out of the other Element nations and had conquered a good amount of land while also decimating the Airbenders and Waterbenders from the Southern Tribe.
February 22nd - 99 AG
Fire Nation Capital - Throne room

While the Admiral left to go assemble forces for the expedition across this gate Ozai knew that someone would have to fill in his position while he was gone.
"Commander Zhao, thank you for coming in" Ozai said
"The pleasure is mine Ozai, but I am confused. Why do you need me?" Zhao questioned. He was given a message to have a meeting with the Fire Lord but the exact reason didn't come with the memo he received.
"Admiral Yu is planning an expedition to the other side and will be gone for a little while. Congratulations, you are now an Admiral and will take over not only the area you were assigned to before but you will also watch our south territory"
Commander Zhao was a high ranking officer in the Fire Navy and Ozai wanted to have him take over the Admiral's position while he was gone.
"What is this expedition and what do you mean other side?"
"His sailors in the southern sea area of the Earth Kingdom spotted a mysterious structure and is leading a expedition through it. We are expanding to new lands to spread the might and glory of the Fire Nation" Ozai stated

As the morning sun shines on the opposite side of the structure the large Fire Navy expedition force is starting to wake up and move itself through.
"Lieutenant, signal the rest of the ships and let them know we are going to be crossing in a few minutes. Don't forget to tell them that depend on the ship, we can pass multiple at a time or else we risk getting damaged before this can begin!" the Admiral said
