Arriving at King's Cross Station with my parents I take a deep breath and look ahead of me at the brick pillar "Go on, dear. You know what to do" My mum says to me placing a hand on my shoulder, feeling tears beginning to form I turn around and hug her "I'm gonna miss you.." I mumble into her shirt. Placing a hand on the back of my head she pulls me in and squeezes lightly "I'm going to miss you too, I promise I'll send an owl every week" she says as I lift my head, bringing her hand to my chin she tilts it up "Oh don't cry my dear, if you start you know I'll start and-"and that won't be good" My pa interjects with a chuckle. Pulling me into a bear hug he lifts me and squeezes "Now you be good, I don't wanna have to send any 'howlers' an embarrass ya" pa says chuckling at the recently learned word, putting me down I giggle and nod my head "Don't worry, I'll behave" I say turning back around to face the pillar. Releasing another breath I do one last look behind and smile, putting a hand on my mum's shoulder my pa waves. Facing forward I gulp and push my cart towards the pillar, getting closer I close my eyes as I run through the 'gateway' as mum calls it.
Suddenly hearing the loud steam engine I open my eyes, gaping at all of the commotion of fellow students and their parents I look around in awe. "Hello, are you a First-Year?" A quiet voice asks me from behind. Turning I see a cute girl with caramel skin around my age, meeting her dark eyes I feel myself blush "H-hello, and yeah I am" I say awkwardly looking down at my hands, smiling she tilts her head "Great, I'm one too." She says pushing her cart ahead of me "We could sit together, if you'd like" she says looking back at me. Smiling I catch up to her "Yeah, that'd be great!" I say excitedly following her on the train.
Once finding an empty compartment the father of my new friend, Kim, helped us load our trunks into the storage compartments and then said his goodbyes. "Your dad's funny" I say sitting down. "Really? Most people think he's strange" She says sitting opposite of me, setting down my carrier I open it and pull out my pet. She's a 3 month old pure white kitten with bright blue eyes, setting her down in my lap I stroke her "People say that bout my pa too, he's not English so they tease me bout his accent." I say looking out the window "Oh, that's so interesting! Where's your father from?" Kim asks excitedly leaning forward. Smiling I turn back to face her "He's from America, more specifically he's from South Carolina. It's really pretty there, the trees are so tall!" I explain excitedly standing up. Stepping on the bench I pull down a blue backpack of mine, sitting back down I zip it open and start rummaging through it "I have a few pictures if you'd want to look" I say pulling out a small photo album. Getting up from her seat Kim picks up Pixie (your cat) and sits down next to you, leaning over she looks at the pictures while you give detailed backstories to each.
"and that's the year I learned how to ice skate!" I say pointing at a picture of 4 year old me grinning while standing on a frozen lake in rural South Carolina "Apparently right after this I fell straight on my butt!" I say laughing, laughing with me Kim turns the page. As I'm about to explain the story behind the next picture a posh voice asks "Are you First-Years?" Looking up I see a blonde boy with slicked back hair standing in the doorway, blushing I glance at Kim "Y-yeah, we both are" I say as he walks into our compartment. Sticking out a hand he introduces himself "I'm Malfoy, Draco Malfoy." Taking his hand I shake it "Hi, I'm F/N L/N. And this is my friend, Kim Alonso" I say glancing over at her, raising a brow at us he pulls his hand away "L/N? I don't recognize it, where's it from?" "It's ________, but my father's from America" I say awkwardly looking up at him. "America? Is your father a wizard?" He asks taking a seat across from us "Well-"Ey, Draco! Parkinson already has a cabin" a tall (for his age) boy with black skin and hair interrupts sticking his head in. Nodding Draco stands up and walks over to the door "Pleasure meeting you, L/N. Hopefully we'll be able to continue our conversation, maybe you'll even be sorted into Slytherin." He says with a grin before following the other boy, blushing I look at Kim. Her disgruntled face makes me raise a brow "What's wrong?" "I don't like him, my mother works with his father and she says he's a git" Kim says reaching over and closing the door "That doesn't mean he's one" I say closing the photo album. Scoffing Kim turns and looks at me "I doubt it, just wait till he finds out you're a half-blood" "Why?" I ask suddenly feeling self conscious "Cause his family's known for hating muggles, they call them 'mudbloods' and during the war his family were Death Eaters." She explains with a sigh, furrowing my brows I ask "Death Eaters?" "They're followers of he who should not be named, they killed muggles and anyone who tried to help them." Kim says looking down. Sensing she didn't want to talk anymore I just reply with an "Oh." and put my album away, hearing the whistle blow I look out the window as the train begins to move.
