"Holy- " you grabbed your chest, clutching over your heart. Sebastian's face mere inches from yours when you opened your eyes.
"Far from it," he gave a closed eye smile and a fleeting kiss on your temple.
"Oh shut up," you playfully tried to hit him, but he just caught your arm, gently pulling you up to a sitting position. "Don't do that when I'm sleeping!"
"You were just so peaceful I couldn't help myself~" he grinned and stood to his normal height with his normal stoic face. "But you have to wake up, the young lord and I are going to Buckingham Palace soon. I need you to find out as much as you can about the music hall and its occupants while we're away. We'll meet you at the music hall later this evening. Oh, and Lord Edward is going with you today so try to behave."
"Alright, I'll get ready," you stretched still feeling tired, your body aching from sudden movement after being asleep for hours.
"Good, the carriage leaves in a half hour," he said checking his pocket watch before swiftly turning to finish getting ready to leave. Just as he shut the door you yelled at him, "WAIT WHAT DO YOU MEAN TRY TO BEHAVE?!" throwing a pillow at the closed door.
~
"You again?" you said when Sebastian opened the door so you both could go to the carriage. The boy who delivered the mail the other day was back, his hand held up to knock the door.
"I'm sure the maid told you before, when dropping the mail, use the back entrance," Sebastian said raising his eyebrow as the kid stared at you as if analyzing you.
He spit on the ground, "You nobles and your rules, rules, rules; not all of us have to follow your ways. You made that painfully clear with your class division." He shoved the paper and some letters into Sebastian's hand before walking off, leaving you both annoyed and speechless so early in the morning. Your eye twitched in disbelief, you had something waiting for him the next time he delivered mail.
"Well, that was annoying," the young lord said from behind you two coming down the stairs. "Unless it's from Her Majesty, I'll deal with them later we have other things to do today."
~
They dropped you and Lord Edward off near the hall to begin your investigation.
"What's the point of going tonight, we'll draw suspicion."
"Unfortunately, the Yard isn't too bright they'll go around asking questions in the hall and Bravat would be on guard. Unless he knows about the Queen's guard dog, he would expect us to be there frequently like everyone else who comes back," you said forming your plan for the day. Nobles gossip but if there was something malicious that would cause them a scandal they're tighter than a sealed barrel, they'd squeal to whoever was pulling the strings and there goes everyone's cover. Everyone else wouldn't have anything to lose other than whatever they gained from this.
"Oh so that's why we're asking questions now and not at the hall. Where do we start?"
"We start questioning the working class. You can start with the poor, I'm sure the nobles would notice Lord Midford's son poking around," you said planning out your broad list. "Look for anyone with a bracelet or singing that song. And if they're kids sir, don't approach them if they're in a group." The children were smart, most of them ran around in groups to rob unsuspecting people, and they gave information for money only. You didn't fault them for it, it's a means of survival that you knew all too well.
Sighing you looked around, you forgot these people were unnaturally happy. Overly happy if that was possible. You spotted a woman eyeing trinkets in a stall outside the store, her silver bracelet dangled loosely from her wrist.
"Oh my! You've been to Sphere Music Hall too?" you asked her. In a place like this, you would think people would learn to hide things like expensive jewelry. Her face instantly lit up at the mention of the place, a huge grin crawled its way to her lips.
"Yes! Have you?" she asked visibly searching for your bracelet on your wrist, but yours was in your pocket. "Where's your bracelet?"
"In my pocket, people like to steal things down here. Can't let something precious like that get taken away right?" you laughed a bit, trying to seem as trustworthy as possible, though you think it wasn't necessary, she seemed odd.
"Oh no, they wouldn't steal these. Besides almost everyone down here has one," she gestured towards the crowded street. Some children ran past the both of you shouting something about stars. "Oh that reminds me what'd you think of the new song yesterday? Violet was more dazzling than usual," she swooned obviously reliving the memory in her mind.
"Actually I didn't understand the song, what did it mean?"
"Our stars that protect our shining thing. When the fortune teller gave you the bracelet didn't he say your star protects your shining? I heard there was a man last night that had no star and was trying to snuff out everyone's shining, imagine that," she said in a low voice, her eyes darting around as if she was afraid someone would hear her. "Lucky they threw him out."
"Yeah, lucky," you said quietly.
She looked over your shoulder and waved at someone. "I'm sorry. I have to go. I hope to see you tonight in the Hall."
You walked around the shoppes, she was right. Almost everyone had a bracelet on. It seemed as if everything that defined being a human left them. As soon as they spent a day in the hall their problems were magically lifted. Heh, if only life worked like that. You talked to a man who said the same thing; this shining thing everyone has that needs to be protected by their star. But every time you asked anyone what the shining thing was they answered you in circles.
You banged your head on the bar. This is getting nowhere. Lord Edward had even worse luck since he never got his fortune told, he didn't have a bracelet to show. It was night, and the hall was filling with people both regulars and new comers as you and Lord Edward watched from the pub directly across the street. The entire street transformed at night, what looked dreary in the daylight came alive with people and floods of golden light.
"They're back," Lord Edward shook your arm making you pick up your head. Their carriage pulled up and the young lord stepped out with no sign of Sebastian. Both of you joined him in the hall, there wasn't anything different other than the amount of people there. You all split up looking for anything suspicious, other than the people acting weird nothing was going on that any of you could find. Even the performance by the ex prefects didn't seem like a way to distract people.
After your annoyingly tiring day you took a hot bath and dressed ready to help put together whatever you all found out. The Queen gave him a list of Lord's that were engrossed in the hall. It worried her that many people with power congregated so often. You told him about everyone saying their shining thing must be protected. Nothing made sense to any of you. Sebastian suggested that you should wait for the exclusive bracelet events and you all agreed. You knew nothing was confirmed with being tied to any divine being but maybe the shining thing referred to souls. If Sebastian was someone who could stifle someone's shining it could be a possibility.
You were about to undress for bed but someone had other plans with what you could do with your night. Sebastian gripped your waist from behind planting hot kisses down the nape of your neck making you moan lightly. His teeth attached themselves to your sweet spot ripping desperate mewls from you, as his hand traveled up to your clothed breast drawing circles with his slender finger over the exposed area of your chest. You turned around burying your hands inside the breast of his tailcoat, sliding it off as you crashed your lips onto his. Taken aback by your sudden actions he had no choice but to comply. Stripping you of your corset and skirt he wasted no time pushing you onto the bed. You spread your legs and saw the hunger in his glowing eyes.
"Good kitten," he purred, his facade dropping a little with his fangs bared. You loved how comfortable he was around you, never caring to look his perfect self. Without hesitating he hovered over you, trousers joined the pile of clothes strewn all over the floor and entered you slowly. You groaned bucking your hips into him, he was being such a tease, taking slow deep strokes when you wanted him to ravage you. Fingers tangled in his hair, your tongues fighting for dominance which he won soon by thrusting more forcefully into you.
"Cheater," you managed to breathe out with a grin on your face. Moans turned to uncontrollable squeaks as you grabbed the sheets behind your head, biting your lower lip so you don't wake the entire household up.
"Oh but you enjoyed it," he smirked back, lifting your leg over his shoulder ready to delve deeper.
~
Your night gown was so far that you grabbed Sebastian's shirt and threw it on. It was bigger than you, and definitely more comfortable. No wonder you always liked the feel of his tailcoat, the material of all his clothes were high quality.
"It suits you," he said smugly, pulling a spare from the wardrobe in the room. Always prepared.
"My shirts are so stiff, I'm jealous-"
"When are you not?" He asked receiving a pillow to the back of his head making him chuckle. He looked up suddenly, ears twitching slightly. "We have guests."
Your stomach lurched in anticipation and nervousness. Bad timing as always, when you're tired is when someone decides to send their little henchmen for the young lord's head. In all honesty, you were waiting for this. Hoping some idiots would crash before Tuesday. It was risky you weren't sure if you had the stomach to do it, your chance came so suddenly that you had barely formed a solid plan.
"Even here? They don't rest," you sighed nervously getting dressed.
"There's no rest for the wicked," he said, knives gleaming between his skillful fingers. The glint reminding you of the first time you met. Were you nervous then? You couldn't even remember.
"Is that why you don't sleep?" you grinned.
The townhouse was in London, so the secrecy of the forest didn't mask the sound of guns from other people like it did back at the manor. Stabbing your way through the gang of people and silencing their screams as best as you could you took down the ones coming through the forest surrounding the house as far from Sebastian as they were. Silence engulfed you as you stood there among the dead bodies, except for a few escaped screams from Sebastian's lot. Taking your chance, you sprinted while he was busy. Just a few more meters and you'd be on the road. A pop came from behind you and a bullet whizzed past your ear. Horses were startled and people were rushed out of carriages in case they began stampeding. Turning back you saw a straggling person with a fresh stab wound from you. Trembling trying to reload the gun you took that opportunity to run behind him confusing him with how inhumanely fast you were. You slit his throat and kicked the gun away, if it didn't kill him immediately this time, he would bleed out fast. You felt urgency in your gut and chest, he knew you were gone. Climbing a tree you saw him rifling through the dead bodies. Knowing Sebastian, he wouldn't leave the premises while the young lord was asleep. Neither would he leave him unattended in general unless ordered. You knew that's as far as he'd go tonight. That gave you till morning at least before they start looking for you beyond Phantomhive grounds. Your knife drenched with warm blood dripped onto the ground. There was no washing it without leaving a trace. Dropping it, you slipped away into the city.
It was time to do your own personal investigation.
