Down The Rabbit Hole

the flashback

as the sun sets, Alex was sitting on the tip of the hatter tophat watching the trees go by, he was worried about (Y/N), the woman he loved was in the hands of a mad king. he let out a sigh of worry before he hears the hater talking to himself. "twas brilling, and slithy toves did gyre and gimble in the wabe. all mimsy were the borogoves and the mome raths outgrabe" the hatter said, Alex lowers his head over the edge of the top hat as he looked at the hatter, " sorry, what was that?" he asks. " what was what?" the hatter asks. Alex didn't say anything as he flips over the hat and lads on the hatter's shoulder, " the Jabberwock, with eyes of flame jaws that bite and claws that catch!" the hatter says as Alex listens, " beware the Jabberwock, my son! and the frumious Bandersnatch! he took his vorpal sword in hand the vorpal blade went snicker-snack. he left it dead, ad with its head he went galumphing back." the hatter finished before looking at Alex, " it's all about you, you know" he said, Alex rubs his eyes in frustration and said, " I'm not slaying anything. I don't slay, so put it out of your mind" the hatter stops making Alex worried, " mind" the hatter said before taking Alex off his shoulder and placed in on a log before walking off. " wait! you can't leave me here!" Alex said in anger. the hatter turns to Alex, " you don't slay. do you have any idea what the red kind has done? you don't slay. " the hatter said also in anger. Alex placed his hand on his hips, " I couldn't if I wanted to. " he said. the hatter walked towards him and knelt down to his level, " you're not the same as you were before. you were much more muchier. you've lost your muchness. " the hatter said, " my" muchness?" Alex asks in confusion, the hatter points to Alex's chest, " in there. something's missing." the hatter said. Alex sat down on the log and looked up at the hatter and asks, " tell me what red king has done." sadness filled the hatter's mind, " it's not a pretty story." he said, " tell me anyway," Alex said, the hatter looked around as Alex followed, Alex gasps in horror to see burned houses and trees, there were in the middle to a burned down village. " it was here. I was hatter to the white king at the time." the hatter said as Alex looked back at the hatter. " hightopp clan have always been employed at court. " the hatter said before the memory of that day returned to him. 

*flashback* 

it was a bright day as the village people were having a festival as children laughter and music played. the white king sat on his horse as he watched everyone smile and laugh as the hatter stood beside him clapping along with to the music. but then a dark shadow covered the village making the white king look behind him, at that moment the Jabberwocky roared before shooting lighting at the village people setting the village on fire. the king pulled out his sword but then his horse reared back making his crown fall off his head and the sword left his hand, the hatter tried to get to the horse to calm down but the white king shook his head, " go hatter!" the king said before he got his horse to Gallup away, as the village burned, the red king rode upon his horse and pulled out the sword from the ground. he let out an evil chuckle before riding off into the smoke. as the village kept burning, the hatter looked around in sadness at the destruction and the lives taken that day, the hatter saw his tophat sitting on the ground. he picks it up before dusting it off and placing it on his head. 

* end of flashback*

" hatter? hatter!" Alex called out getting the hatter out of his mind, the hatter blinks and nods at Alex. " I'm fine." he said.  " are you?" Alex asks in concern, then faded barking could be heard, " did you hear that? I'm certain I heard something." the hatter said as he listens very closely. " what?" Alex asks before barking was heard again but a little bit louder this time, the hatter gasps slightly " oh! red knight." he said before picking up Alex and placing him in his front pocket before taking off through the forest knights followed. he came to a river and knew that he couldn't get across, he looked behind him and as the knights getting closer, he takes off his hat and placed Alex on it, " what are you doing?" Alex said as he held onto the ribbon on the hat, " go south to trotter's bottom. the white king's castle is just beyond." the hatter said, Alex shakes his head, " but I can't leave you here." Alex said but the hatter only said, " hold on tight" before throwing the hat over the river. " down with the bloody red king!" he hatter said as he was surrounded by red knights. 

the hat landed on the overside of the river making Alex fall off and on the hard ground. Alex groans slightly before looking behind him and watching as the hatter was dragged away by the red knights. he sighs as he tried to think of what to do but he knew he could continue in the darkness. he crawled under the top hat and lay on the ground with a sigh before he drifted off to sleep. the sun rises and the sound of loud sniffing woke Alex from his sleep. he gasps as the greyhound lift the hat up. Alex quickly stood up before saying, " you were supposed to lead them away! the hatter trusted you!" he said in anger, " they have my wife and pups." the dog said, "and they have the woman I love. " he said in anger, he sighs before taking a deep breath, " I'm sorry. what's your name" he asks. " bayard." the dog replied. " sit" Alex ordered, and the dog sits. " would your name be Alex, by any chance?" bayard asks, " yes, but I'm not the one that everyone's talking about. " Alex said, " the hatter would not have given himself up just for any Alex" bayard said, " where did they take him?" Alex asks as he took a step forwards. " to the red king's castle at salzen grum. " Bayard said. Alex knew he could leave his friends or the woman he loves there, " we're going to rescue him and (Y/N)" Alex said. bayard shook his head slightly, " that is not foretold." he said, Alex clenched his fist in anger and he took a step forward, " I don't care. he wouldn't be there if it weren't for me, and now the woman I love is being forced to marry a mad man." Alex said in anger, " the frabjous day is almost upon us. you must prepare to meet the Jabberwocky" bayard said, Alex groans in frustration and he griped his hair and walked back and forth from the moment before looking back at bayard as he let's go of his hair, " look, from the moment me and (Y/N) fell down that rabbit hole, I've been told what I must be and who I must be, (Y/N) has been kidnapped and forced to marry another man. I've been shrunk, stretched, scratched and stuffed into a teapot. I've been accused of being Alex and not being Alex, but this is my dream. I'll decide where it goes from here." Alex said before taking a breath. " if you diverge from the path..." bayard replied, "I make the path" Alex said before he walked towards bayard who leid down allowing Alex to climb on top. Alex sat down in front of bayard's collar and said,m " take me to salzen grum, bayard, and don't forget the hat." bayard stood up before taking the hatter's hat in his mouth and started heading towards salzen grum. 

as a day went by, they made it to salzen grum where the king of hearts castle was ahead. bayard made it to the side of the castle before he placed the hat on the ground before lowering Alex to the ground. " there's only one way across." bayard said as Alex looked head and saw heads floating in a river in front of the castle. Alex looked a deep breath as he swallowed his fear, " lost my muchness, have I?" he said to himself before he jumped on the heads, one by one before he made it to the other side of the river in front of the palace wall. he turned to bayard and called out, " bayard! the hat!". bayard nodded before he takes the hat in his mouth and throws it over the castle wall, Alex sighed before he saw a crack in the wall. he found himself in a large rose garden before he hears something coming his way, he looked closely before he moved to the side as a large hedgehog went zooming past him. he gasps as he hears clapping, he looked around the corner and saw (Y/N) standing next to the king of hearts,  she looked scared and was dressed in a dark red dress with black hearts on the skirt. Alex then looked at the hedgehog and goes to untie the rope on it, the little animal started squeaking as Alex shushes it, "I want to help you" he said before he looked behind I'm and saw the white rabbit, " well, if it isn't the wrong Alex" the white rabbit said ass the hedgehog scuttled away. " what brings you here? mm?" " I'm here to rescue the hatter and (Y/N)" Alex replied. " you're not rescuing anyone being the size of a gerbil." the white rabbit replied making Alex think before he remembered the cake that made him big, " well, do you have any more of that cake that made me grow before?" he asks. " upelkuchen? actually, I might have some left" the white rabbit said as he takes a cake out of his pocket and handed it to Alex. Alex started taking bites of it as the rabbit said, " not all of it!" but it was too late, Alex drops the cake as he started to grow, and grow, and grow, " oh, no! stop! no, no, no, don't. don't do that!" the rabbit said in a panic. Alex overlook the large rose bush as he saw everyone look at him, he saw (Y/N) gasps before shaking her head as the king of hearts asks, " what is this?" the king asks, " it ... it's a " who", majesty. this is, um..." the rabbit started before losing his words as he tried to think of a name. " um?" the king asks in confusion, " from umbradge" Alex said as (Y/N) face pumped her face slightly, " what happened to your clothes?" the king asks, "I outgrew them. I've been growing an awful lot lately. I tower over everyone in umbradge. they laugh at me. so I've come to you, hoping you might understand what's it's like." Alex said in an innocent voice. " my boy,  anyone with a head that large is welcome in my court. " the king of heart said as alex looks at (Y/N) with a smile. " someone find him some clothes! use the curtains if you must, but clothe this enormous boy" the kind of hearts said before he takes (Y/N)'s hand and leads her away as alex thinks fo what the next part of his plan was.
