it was a cloudy, mist night in London, as the street lamps light brightly over the streets of London. a man named Charles pleasance was in his home talking with some men in his office. " Charles, you have finally lost your senses." a man said as Charles looked away from the window and turned to the men. " this venture is impossible." another man said. " for some. gentlemen, the only way to achieve the impossible is to believe it is possible." Charles explained. " that kind of thinking could ruin you" the man replied, " I'm willing to take that chance." Charles said sternly. " imagine trading posts in Rangoon, Bangkok, Jakarta.... "he started but then a young blonde boy walked up and stood near the door as everyone looked at him, " the nightmare again?" Charles asks as the boy slowly nods. Charles turned to the men, " I won't be long" he said before walking towards the young boy and leading him back to his bedroom.

as the young boy was tucked under the covers, Charles sat at the foot of the bed as the boy told his father about his nightmare. " I'm falling into a dark hole, then I see strange creatures. " the young boy said. " what kind of creatures?" Charles asks, the boy is silent for a moment before he said, " well, there's a dodo bird, a rabbit with a waistcoat, a smiling cat." Charles smiled for a moment before saying, " I didn't know cats could smile." " Neither did I," the boy said with a sigh. " and there's a blue caterpillar" he finished. " blue caterpillar," Charles said as he raised an eyebrow. the boy looked worried as he asked, " do you think I've gone round the bed?" Charles placed the back of his hand on his son's forehead before taking it off and replying, " I'm afraid so. you're mad, bonkers, of your head. but I'll tell you a secret. all the best people are.  " Charles said making the boy chuckled a little. " it's only a dream, Alex. nothing can harm you there. but if you get too frightened, you can always wake up. like this. " Charles said before he pinched Alex, " ow," Alex said in laughter before Charles kissed his forehead and began to walk out the door, " farther" Alex called out. Charles turned back to Alex from the doorway, " can (Y/N) come over and play tomorrow?" Alex asks, " you like that girl don't you ?" Charles asked with a smile as Alex also smiled and said, " with all my heart."

Thirteen Years Later

Alex was now all grown up dress in his finest suit as he and his mother, Helen, were on their way to a party that they were invited to. " must we go?" Alex asks. " doubt they'll notice if we never arrive. " he finished as Helen sighed, " they will notice." Helen said before she checked his suit was propper until she notices that his tie was missing. " where's your tie?" she asks before she pulled his hands out of his pocket's and notice that his white gloves were not on. " and no gloves." she said. " I'm against them" Alex replied, " but you're not properly dressed," Helen said, " who's to say what is proper?" Alex argued back. " what if it was agreed that " proper" as wearing a codfish on your head? would you wear it?" he said as Helen leaned back in the coach seat. " Alex" his mother argued. " to me, a pair of gloves is like a codfish." he whispers to himself before looking out the window as he saw the tree go past him. " please, not today. " Helen said as he sighs in sadness as he remembers his father. " farther would have laughed," Alex said. Helen had sadness in her eyes and Alex could see it, Alex sighed as he looked at his mother. " I'm sorry. I'm tired. I didn't sleep well last night. " Alex said, " did you have bad dreams again?" his mother asks in worry as he slowly nodded his head before saying, " only one. it's always the same, ever since I can remember. do you think that's normal? don't most people have different dreams?" Helen shakes her head and answers, "I don't know."

she then takes off her neckless and placed it in Alex's hand before closing it, " give it to her at the party, to remember you" she said, Alex was confused by what she meant but he nodded his head and placed the neckless in his jacket pocket. " now, can you manage a smile?" she asks as Alex gave her a warm smile before dropping it as he saw a mansion ahead. they got out of the coach and walked towards the back garden of the mansion where (Y/N)'s parents were waiting for them alongside (Y/N) who smiled as she saw Alex. " at last. we thought you'd never arrive" (M/N) said as Alex looked at (Y/N) with a smile, before making a silly face. she giggled a little as her parent's looked at her. " (Y/N). Hamish is waiting to dance with you, go" (M/N) said as (Y/N) nodded before walking off as Alex sadly watched her. " you do realise it's well past 4:00. " (F/N) said to Helen, " now everything will have to be rushed through." (F/N) said as Alex looked confused again. " I am sorry," Helen said, " oh, never mind. " (M/N) said before walking off. " forgive my wife, she's been planning this affair for over 20 years." (F/N) as Alex asks, " what affair? mother what is he talking about?" Helen sighs and says, " why don't you go and enjoy the party, Alex." Alex sighs before walking off as his mind tried to figure out what was going on.
