Oneshot // Birthday // Shai's perspective

"Mum!" My frantic 10 year old called from her room, I swear she can't say a thing without yelling it.

"I'll be up in a second" I yelled back at her, but we both know thats code for 'I'm not coming up there'.

Soon enough I heard the all too familiar stamping of feet on the oak floorboards, I chuckled to myself.

"Theo!" I called for my husband who was currently loading the dishwasher

"Shailene, I'm kinda busy"

"Well when your finished please speak to your tantrum addict daughter"

"Right, ok" I heard him sigh

I stood up and carefully walked up the stairs so that the creaks of the floorboards could not be heard to Zoë, our daughter; I knew myself that if I was heard I would never hear the end of it.

Treading lightly I had made my way towards our son's bedroom; Brandon was currently still snoring in his pirate boat shaped bed.

"Brad, it's 1 o'clock, time to get up"

"No", he somehow shouted at me even though he just woke up. great, two children in a huff

"Brandon I don't have time for this" i scold whilst lifting up one of his superhero outfits from the floor

"If I get up will you get out of my room?" He asked

"On the condition that you actually get up, yes I will"

"Okay" he sighed, defeated

I left the room and heard Theo's masculine voice coming from Zoë's room, I opened the door and Zoë's features were immediately uplifted whist she smiled towards me.

"What are you's two talking about?" I asked the pair of them

"Daddy was just helping me tie my shoelaces" Zoë told me and skipped off into her walk in closet

"Was that it?" I was now asking Theo, he and I both knew that was not what had happened; before I had stepped in there was hushed whispers going back and forth between them

"Yeah, her converse were stuck in a knot"

My eyebrows rose and I just mumbled okay and headed back downstairs

No less than five minutes later the three of them had came downstairs and were currently eating scrambled egg on toast for breakfast

"Mummy, what are we doing today?" Brad asked

"I don't know, you'll have to ask Dad"

"Wow this place is huge" Zoë exclaimed once we got out of the car

"Sure is" Theo mumbled

We had come to the biggest zoo in Simi Valley, where we were meeting my Mother and Tanner at the kiosk

"Gran!" Zoë and Brandon ran towards their grandmother

"Happy birthday Shailene" Theo whispered in my ear; even after all these years a shiver still ran down my spine when he whispered to me

"Whats my birthday present?"

"You'll have to wait"

"Theoooo, I hate surprises"

"I think you'll love this one"

"I have a surprise for you too" I murmured
