Another day, another chore to do. It was time to restock on our ingredients again. Since I'm old enough to carry it on my own, mama left me to go to the market on my own.
The moment I exit our house, the bright sun greeted my face, making me drop a sweat in the heat immediately. I make my way towards the market.
Isabela and I didn't have any plans today since we're both busy. It kinda bummed me out that I wouldn't see her but a part of me was also quite used to it. Our worlds can't revolve around each other.
"Glad to see you again, chica!" Pablo the fishmonger greets me with a huge smile. "Here to buy some fish?" He asks, already trying to get some sales from me.
"You know I am señor. So, can I get a discount on your mojarra? I'll be taking three of them." I say with a persuading smile as I choose from his mojarras.
"Alright, since you're my favorite customer I'll give you a special discount." He says as he takes the fish I choose, washing them real quick and putting them into a plastic bag.
"Thanks señor! You're the best." I say as I wave goodbye, heading to the next shop I need to go to.
I spend half of the day bargaining with shopkeepers for lower prices since I've become their regular. We usually engage in small talk as I pass and they're all kind people.
I head to my last stop for the day, an art shop. As I pass through the door, the bell rings. "Y/n, welcome back! Not with Isabela this time, niña?" Aina, the owner of the shop asks. Isabela and I used to spend a lot of time here. I learned a lot from Aina about painting and drawing.
I chuckle and shake my head as I pass through several isles for my selection. "Nope, she's way too busy today."
"Make sure to come back here with her, okay? I miss her." Aina says as she moves to stand next to me. She strokes my hair with a gentle smile on her face.
"I will." I say as I look up at her with the same smile on my face. I take a few different colored paints from the rack, as well as some books to help me improve.
Once I pay for everything I need, I head out of the store with a wave. Despite being older, I still find all my bags heavy. I quickly walk home so I don't end up dropping them.
And just as I'm about to take a quick turn, I bump into someone heading in my direction. I end up dropping all the bags I was carrying at the impact. "Oh gosh, I'm so sorry," I say before turning to look up at who I collided with.
My heart races when I see her. "It's all right, I'm sorry too mariposa." Isabela says as she uses her vines to grab all our stuff from the floor, offering her hand to me as she stands.
I take it with a smile and dust my pants off when I'm up. "Thanks. I see you've been at the market too." I say as I try to take my bags from her. She brings the vines that are holding my stuff away immediately.
"Let me take you home. You're obviously having a hard time carrying all this." She gestures for me to take the lead on the way home.
"I'm surprised I didn't pass by you in the market. I was there literally the whole day." I say as I turn to her, the two of us walking fairly slow.
"Maybe we weren't meant to meet until now." She says with a playful smile and takes my hand in hers. "Maybe the universe wanted you to miss me first before it let you see me."
A blush forms on my face at her words. It made me happy to see her here unexpectedly, especially since she's going out of her way to bring me home. But I always immediately miss her the moment I can't see her, so her logic was definitely wrong.
