A/N: I just had a breakthrough for another book! Lmaooo, I blame my brother for feeding me with new ideas.
I might release it soon since I'm excited to start writing about it hehe, probably at the same time I release chapter 3 for my other book.
Also, you're now turning 18, Isa's 19. Hope you enjoy this chapter!!

You take a deep breath as you look into the mirror, hoping to calm the nerves that started to settle in your stomach when you hear the commotion outside.
Taking a peek out of the balcony, you find the plaza filled with decorations and food, everyone preparing to throw a grand celebration for your eighteenth birthday.
You never imagined your life to bloom so beautifully in this small town, warmth and ease filled your heart at the feeling of home.
Your parents had already left earlier in order to help everyone set up, and just as you make your way out, a knock resounds against the door. You open it to reveal the love of your life wearing a grin from ear to ear. "Happy birthday mariposa."
You pull her closer to hug her. Things may have been a bit rocky, and although both of you were still recovering from the tension, you didn't want to lose another day without her. "Thank you." You whisper before pulling away with a grin that mirrors hers.
You had finally decided that today was the day to confess. As much as you wished to do it in public in order to claim Isa as yours, you didn't want to put that kind of pressure on her. You didn't want to be another Abuela in her life, god knows Isa would go crazy.
"I was wondering if we could pass by my studio." You say as you grab her hand, hoping to get it over with before you chicken out and decide against it.
You also wanted to take the opportunity of some time alone with her before facing the crowd, knowing she would get swept away by Mariano and Abuela once again. Luckily, everyone was already at the plaza, leaving you and Isabela alone on the street.
She nods with a smile, placing her hand firmly on your waist and pulling you closer. It felt natural to always be this close to her, you never wanted to pull away. "We have to be quick though, people will start wondering."
You wrap your arm around her as she starts swinging with her vine. Every time she did, freedom always dawned on her face. You could tell it was one of her ways to let loose and have fun. If only you could produce your own vines and challenge her to a race.
Unlocking the door, you welcome her inside. The studio was filled with paintings on one side and photographs on the other, most of them being landscapes.
Just as you make your way to the rooftop, you find Isabela going through the tons of sketchbooks you had placed on a shelf. And of all the ones she could choose from, she had eyed a specific one you hoped to keep to yourself.
Grabbing her wrist, you take it from her hands before she could flip it open. "Nuh-uh, this one's out of limits." You say as you pull away, lifting it with an outstretched arm.
But before you could put a big enough distance between you, she tiptoes to reach for it, her body pressing against yours. Your faces get so close you could feel her breath against your lips. "Now I'm even more interested to see it. Please? Just a tiny peek?"
You bite your lip at her cute tone, turning away as you start to feel your face heat up. This woman had seriously got you wrapped around her little finger and she was aware of it. "Nope."
Isabela pouts before hopping, in hopes of being able to reach it. Your arms being much longer than hers gave you a certain advantage, which tempted her to use her vines instead.
You let out a sigh despite enjoying her eagerness and cute little actions just to see it. You knew she wasn't about to give in. "Fine, I'll let you see it later. Let's go up first, please?"
"Deal, let's go." She says as she pulls you towards the ladder, hoping to see the contents. Isabela was curious about what you drew inside, wondering if it was something explicit since it had you embarrassed.
When you get seated by the view, she grabs the sketchpad from your hand when you let your guard down. You feel your face flush and grab her by her wrists. "Just! Let me speak first!" You say as you struggle against her, leaning over her when you pin her down, the sketchpad forgotten as it falls to the floor.
None of you speak as you look into each other's eyes. You feel your lips shake as you slowly loosen your grip despite Isabela not even struggling against you. "I'm in love with you, Isabela Madrigal."
She takes in a sharp breath as emotions flash through her eyes. Knowing you loved her back scared her, things would be less complicated if you hadn't. That's why she wanted to deny it, no matter how obvious it was that you felt the same.
She knew she would have to marry Mariano eventually, and she didn't want either of you to deal with that kind of pain. She couldn't fight for her own happiness, nor chase after it even if she wanted to.
But she didn't want to keep you a secret either. She wouldn't dare keep such a beautiful thing to herself, she wanted to shout it from the rooftops even.
"Say something..." You whisper as fear starts to flood you. You won't ever regret confessing to her, but you still wanted some kind of answer, even if it meant being rejected.
"I love you too." She says as tears start to spring in her eyes before she turns away and wipes them. "But... we can't." She whispers.
You take her chin in your hand and make her look at you, wearing a reassuring smile. "Let's just... try. I don't want to give you up. Especially not to that idiot." You say with a joking tone before wearing a serious expression as you continue. "Let's go on a few dates, test the waters and see if we could make things work. Please. I don't want to walk away from this and regret we didn't at least give it a shot."
Isabela leans her head against your chest, feeling your heart beat just as fast as hers. "I just don't want to hurt you mi amor. If the time comes when I would have to choose between you and my family..." She starts, and just thinking about it breaks her heart all over again. She didn't want to think about it, but she already knew what she had to choose if it ever came.
"I won't ever make you choose, I promise. Just give us a chance, let me know you want me just as much as I want you..." You whisper as you cup her cheeks in your hands, pulling away with just the right distance to look her in the eyes. "Don't think about anything else right now, just us. Let your heart choose."
Before you could think, Isabela presses her lips against yours gently, pulling away quickly before you could even reciprocate the kiss. She turns away as she covers her face, her ears turning red as colorful flowers bloom at the top of her head.
You find yourself shell-shocked as you stare at her. Placing the tips of your fingers against your lips, the scene starts to replay on your mind while you process what just happened.
Her lips were soft, softer than you could ever imagine, and the kiss was quick but delicate. You wondered what lip balm she was wearing that made it taste so sweet... or maybe it was just her.
"You idiot... of course my heart will always tell me to choose you."
