You laid on your bed, sighing into the pillow you had your face buried in. You really tried your best, but it seemed life just wanted to push you to your absolute limit. While social media probably didnt help with that any, you kept going back to it and it kept making you feel worse about yourself.
Suddenly you heard someone knock on the door of your bedroom. You knew who it probably was, and you wanted to answer, but you just didn't have the energy right now. The next thing you heard was the twisting of a doorknob, before your friend Neil walked into your room.
"Hey.. (Y/N)... are you alright?"You nodded your head slightly, but clearly he didn't believe you.
"(Y/N), what's wrong? Is there any way I can help?"
You sighed again and sat up to look at him, your eyes watering slightly. You could never figure out what you did to deserve such a great friend, he was so perfect and you were just... there. And even this you had to ruin by catching feelings.
He broke you out of your thoughts by gently placing a hand on your cheek and tilting your head upwards to look at him."Once again, what's wrong?" he asked softly. You stared into his eyes for a moment before mumbling "feel ugly again" under your breath. He smiled sadly and knelt down to hug you, muttering something about you needing to uninstall Instagram. You hugged him back and both of you stayed there in calm silence for what felt like hours. He eventually broke away from the hug and held your hands in his. "Y'know, for someone who likes Dinosaurchestra so much, you really seem to have missed the message of one of the songs."
You chuckled and shook your head. "It just feels like.. I'm the exception. I don't know, its dumb. I never should have bothered you with this."
Neil seemed shocked for a second, but he just smiled and said "There are no exceptions."
"Yes but... I feel like you think I am. I feel like you don't actually like me."
You looked down at your hands and he quickly placed a hand under your chin to tilt your head up again. He appeared to be thinking about something, but before you could ask what he was thinking of you suddenly felt his lips on yours. You were surprised, to say the least, but you kissed back nonetheless. He placed his hands on your cheeks as your eyes closed.
You had always heard people describe their first kiss as "fireworks" or other similar words, but this was so much better. After what felt like an eternity, you and Neil seperated and you smiled.
"Now will you believe me?" he asked, laughing slightly. You nodded and kissed him again, pulling him down on your bed to spend the rest of the day cuddling with him as he hummed Nothing Worth Loving Isn't Askew to you.You may not be perfect, but nothing is. And you were okay with that.
