Midnight

Midnight and Maya squared off, hissing and growling at eachother menacingly. Maya backed away towards Mia's room and I smiled, knowing that I had beaten the dog. Whenever the dog ran to Mia, it meant she knew that she couldn't win.

Just to provoke her, I smiled and walked menacingly towards the dog. Maya never kept her eyes off of me, walking up the stairs backwards. I continued to walk forward, composing my face into a murderous glare just to see the dog squirm.

And it worked. Maya stepped backwards and suddenly, I heard a loud CLICK and I was doused with water. I yowled and jumped back shivering.

This let the dog get away, sprinting up the stairs to Mia's room, the only place she couldn't attack Maya.

I am mad now. I stalked up the stairs, sure I looked murderous, but I was the hunter and Maya was my prey. I didn't care if I scared my prey.

I strolled into the bright pink room, white shelves intricately braided along one wall. The shelves extended near the roof to the other side of the room, where Mia's bed and desk layed. Mia had a ledge above her bed for Maya's bed so she could sleep with Mia.

I carefully hopped up next to Maya, who was curled under the blankets whimpering like a scared little baby bunny. The dogs' gaze flicked around wildly, as if looking for an escape route. Suddenly, her gaze landed on me and she shrank farther back under the covers of the pink bed.

I wanted to pounce so bad. She was so close and easily in my grasp. But then I eyed Mia, who had her arm slung around the dog and was petting her soothingly.

I smirked at the dog. Two could play in that game. The dog growled menacingly back at me and I pretended to look hurt, whimpering in fake fear.

The dog, probably realizing what I was trying to do, whimpered again and curled farther into Mia.

"What's gotten into you two?" Said Mia. I looked at her. She had long blond hair running down to about her waist. She was wearing a bright blue tank with jean shorts on.

The dog started shaking, probably trying to match the game and fake fear just like I was trying to do. Of course, being a wimpy two leg, Mia fell for it. She stroked both her pets' backs comfortingly.

"Oh no! Ugh!" Mia grunted, probably feeling my still damp fur. "Dad!" Mia called from her room. "Can you take Midnight outside to dry off!? She's all wet!"

The father came into the room, grabbed me and took me downstairs to dry off. I caught one last glance at the dog before I vanished out of sight, down the stairs and out through the door. The dogs' gaze was relieved but still terrified. As if she knew that she was safe for now, but knew I would get my revenge, just like I always did.

I hissed at the father, just like any cat would do if a two leg got all up in their business. No self respecting cat would ever let a two leg dry them off and ruin their fur!

A few minutes later, after the father had thoroughly combed through every strand of my pelt, I quickly scampered back up the stairs to torment Maya more.

This was what I did for fun each day. It was always the same thing, I would always get so close to catching Maya, then she would spring one of her dirty tricks and run away to Mia. It was honestly getting extremely frustrating, but there was nothing really else to do around here.

The neighbors, which I had tormented for years on end when I was a kit, always scaring them by scratching my claws against their fences to make it sound like one of the forest cats coming to get them (they had made the mistake of telling me that fear.)

Before I padded back into Mia's room to continue to torment my prey, I shook out my pelt, getting it to fall the way I liked it. Then I strolled into the room with a grin on my face.

Mia was at her desk, probably doing her two leg work she always seemed to come home with. I glared at Maya and mewed menacingly, "you thought you got rid of me, didn't you?"

The dog, who was currently washing herself, froze and stared at me like I was her worst nightmare come true. I grinned at the thought. I probably was.

I could tell she was trying to think of a way to get away from me without being suspicious, but I was blocking the doorway. No way she was going to get away from me this time.

Maya, who must be a professional escape artist, went over by Mia's chair and lifted her leg. Mia quickly went to the door, kicking me aside like I was a toy about to be tripped on, and strolled out the door with Maya hot on her heels.

I glared at Maya right before I slammed into the doorframe. I would get her eventually. I was just biding my time. When I finally struck, Maya would have no idea what hit her.
