A small, gray, tabby kit was shoved into a small cage and brought into a monster. I was shaking so hard I couldn't feel my paws. Flashbacks of my old twoleg kept popping in and out of my mind. An image of a giant adult two leg, raising a metal bar, then a sharp pain in my side. The sound of sirens and two legs with green skin rushing in. My eyes slowly fluttered and I felt cold hands around me before I sank into unconsciousness.
I snapped back to the present. The monster had stopped moving and we were at a large house. The male two leg, pressed the small button, making a ringing sound while the female grabbed my cage and hauled it up the front steps to the door.
The female two leg set me down on the ground and opened the door. I cowered at the back of my cage, scared if I came out then the two legs would attack me, as did my old ones.
Suddenly, a sharp, raspy meow caught my curiosity and I popped my head out of the cage. I meowed quietly in response, wondering if the cat had even heard me. As my eyes adjusted to the bright light, I could suddenly see a black she-cat strolling down the stairs with curiosity in her gaze. She was limping a little, and that frightened me.
Suddenly, a large female border collie dog came barreling towards her, barking gleefully. I yelped and shrank back against my cage again. I trembled and, after a moment as my curiosity took over, I trotted cautiously towards the dog.
I figured if I looked more menacing, the dog wouldn't attack me. So, I flicked the dog in the face with my small, fluffy tail and strolled toward the two legs, who had a ball of yarn in their hands.
I looked back to see the dog sneezing and putting her paws over her nose, which I had to laugh at. The sight of it was extremely amusing, especially when the dog fell over into a bowl of water lying on the floor. The dog blinked in surprise and I chuckled.
The dark she-cat I had seen earlier, trotted over to me, casting a glare at the now drenched border collie. The she-cat meowed in that raspy voice of hers saying, "stay away from her! She's mine!"
I winced at the cat's harsh words. Did I really belong to her? The cat was looking at me with fierce protection and I imagined that was the way a mother looked at her kits. I suddenly felt a rush of immense love for her.
I purred at the cat, and padded over to sit next to her, pressing my pelt close to the black abyss of hers. I felt a warm lick of affection between my ears and I purred louder. I knew then that I was going to enjoy living in this strange new house. I finally felt a sense of belonging and I leaned my head against the cats', drinking in her warm scent.
"No kid! Don't go near her! She's evil!" The dog pointed her tail at her new found mother.
Mama Night (it was what I would call her until I found out her real name curled her warm tail around me and grinned at the dog. I suspected by the way Mama showed all of her teeth that they were enemies and this cat had the upper hand.
I wanted to impress her and I decided to mimic her. I bared my teeth trying to impress Mama Night. After a second or two I looked up hopefully at her "mother."
The Mama smiled and nuzzled me before purring, "I will teach you all I know, you kit."
I smiled at her, before snuggling closer. "I love you, Mama." I said, hissing at the dog. I was finally excited to be living in this new home. I knew right then and there that this was my home.
